Re: [TWC] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol II -- Time Warner

Has anyone else experienced the following?... when attempting to engage TWC via their web chat (accessed through one's online account page), once the TWC rep appears and you start typing, the modem resets itself and an error message is displayed indicating TWC is having technical difficulties? I've had this happen to me three times this evening.

Thanks.

Re: ClearQAM Channel Listing for TW Dallas

said by Unbundled:

I recently went to Basic Cable without a box, and my LCD TV made in 2010 is ClearQAM ready.

Is there a website or link to a listing of the ClearQAM channels that TW Dallas makes available ?

The link that has an answer to ClearQAM listings (and OTA bty) is from the Silicon Dust Website:

Just enter your Zip Code at this link:

finally got the digital adapter letter today seems it came from Lincoln Nebraska which is where I am guessing the planning for the digital changes are being planned for all of the Texas and Midwest areas.

"Starting on or about March 5, 2013 C-SPAN, EWTN, G4, and WGN will be delivered in a digital format only" "This will not affect any TVs that you currently have connected to a digital set-top box. The next few lines have info about how to order the adapters and the adapters being free until November 30th 2013 and then they become 99 cents a month.

"Note these channel will remain in their existing packages, and will continue to be viewable with a digital set-top box, digital adapter, or Cable card" "In addition C-SPAN, EWTN, and WGN will continue to be viewable on digital TV's (and other devices) that include a QAM tuner."

For just a little more than the $0.99 p/m you can for $2.50 p/m have a cable card. TiVo currently has a deal get a new Premiere 4, lifetime service, a TiVo Mini (New device by TiVo for another TV) and a MOCA adapter. Your ongoing cost is the $2.50 p/m and you have a 4 tuner DVR and a device for a second TV. Yes it is a big outlay on the TiVo P4 and the Mini but it's yours and there are no further fees.

Choose your Whole Home Bundle: »www3.tivo.com/promo/wholehome-bu···dex.html

The Mini is on another page, I suggest calling them, or go to BestBuy.

While I enjoy your TIVO commercials in almost all cases anyone considering a digital adapter for a TV with a direct connect cable would not be looking for a TIVO. Most of these TV's are in areas used rarely (Guest Rooms, Garages, workshops etc)

TIVO is an overkill for this.

That's the beauty of the new TiVo Mini device. It utilizes the tuner of the four tuner devices only one cable card required, allows watching previously recorded content and cost far less including

Ok...

149.99 Purchase price
149.99 Service Fee or 5.99 a month

That alone is 300 months of a 99 cent DTA.

I just found out there is a one time 99.99 activation fee.

Now we are at 400 months.

Am I missing something here?

Yes you forgot the price of the 4 tuner Tivo and service for that you will need to use the Tivo mini.

Premiere 4 = $249 + service
Premiere XL4 = $399 + service

I don't know where you got your numbers. There is no activation fee. It does require service purchase $99.99 direct from Tivo or BestBuy and then service either $5.99 p/m or $149.99 lifetime uses the cable card already in service with a 4 tuner or the upcoming 6 tuner unit. So one cable card and access to all digital channels, all recorded content, hulu and coming Netflix (not currently supported on the mini). It adds another tv to an existing tivo. And NO additional cost to cable company.

Didn't forget it???

I clearly stated the first response it worked with an existing TiVo 4 Tuner. Recording capacity alone smokes any Cable Co DVR (can be expanded up to approx 450 hours of full HD), you OWN it you move take it with you and you don't lose the recordings. How much does TWC charge for a DVR? How many tuners, does it do Hulu, NetFlix, YouTube, Amazon, Pandora, Rhapsady, Spotify, PhotoBucket.... and more.

The mini added to a TiVo makes sense especially in a little used room, you don't have to even run coax to it or if coax exist use the MOCA bridge built in all TiVo 4 tuner DVR's. A single cable card and tuning adapter for up to 4 TV's.

I have no doubt that some people will prefer to lease sub-standard equipment/options. For those who prefer to have everything work everywhere and OWN the equipment, this is a great option.

I prefer to purchase BestBuy because they offer a 4 year extended warranty, which TiVo will transfer the lifetime service to a device BestBuy replaces; and well purchases help me maintain my BestBuy Premier Silver RewardZone status. You can skip the extended warranty if you like.

Mainly I prefer to not lease a DVR from the cable company that I'll never own and dependent on them for service, to get recordings off of.

I wasnt talking to you, I was talking to Hob. My point was if you dont have any Tivo's then you have to invest in a 4 tuner Tivo to make the mini work, you cant just buy a Tivo mini and use it by itself.

Yes agreed.

My Figures were taken from the Tivo website

»support.tivo.com/app/answers/det···o%20mini

What is the MSRP for TiVo Mini?
The MSRP for TiVo Mini is $149.99.

What service plans are available for TiVo Mini?
TiVo offers a monthly service plan for TiVo Mini at $5.99 per month with a minimum of one (1) year commitment. TiVo also offers a product lifetime service (PLS) plan as a $149.99 one-time fee.

What does TiVo Mini cost?
To be activated, TiVo Mini requires a one-time fee of $99.99 for the unit and a service plan.

I understand why some will opt for a Tivo option in order to save a monthly DVR fee. If you can afford the upfront costs, the lifetime guide data and a nice Best Buy extended warranty then go right ahead. I am sure there are threads more appropriate than one dealing with DTA's.

Honestly I havent checked into them other than what I've seen people post over at the Tivo Community website. I went thru so much hell with Tivo over the past year, and threw so much money at them that I am done until they get their software fixed. I used to be a big Tivo fan but that changed this last year.

One other thing I learned about Tivo people is that you cannot disagree with them, they only see things one way, their own. They do not think there are any other possible options out there other than Tivo. They always talk about how bad the cable company DVR's are, and how bad the Ceton cards are. I've tried both and for now I'm all the way Team Ceton. I have a stack of Tivo boxes sitting here now that I dont/cant use because its such a nightmare on TWC. I really dont see what the big draw is with Tivo anymore.

That's totally dishonest, there is NOT a $99 activation fee. The price not the msrp on the TiVo site IS $99.99. Go buy a car you don't pay msrp! Mrsp is not a realistic number, I don't pay MSRP for just about anything. Except maybe to the cable company. I most certainly dont for my phone.

The total price on the TiVo site fir a mini for an existing tivo $99.99 + service period end of sentence. You manufactured that activation fee crap.

Actually Tivo manufactured that activation fee crap. Had you followed the link Hob posted to Tivo's own FAQ you would've seen that.

EXACTLY! What does this say

"What does TiVo Mini cost?
To be activated, TiVo Mini requires a one-time fee of $99.99 for the unit and a service plan."

What is does not say is what Hob eluded to MRSP

"149.99 Purchase price
149.99 Service Fee or 5.99 a month

That alone is 300 months of a 99 cent DTA.

I just found out there is a one time 99.99 activation fee.

No, TiVo IS NOT charging MRSP plus; indeed it is $99.99 or $50 off the MRSP plus service. So HONESTLY it is NOT $149.99 + $149.99 + $99.99 as he had stated. It is as I stated $99.99 plus service say lifetime $149.99. It's reading what it actually says and doing arithmetic!

Because it requires an active TiVo MSD (Multi Service Discount) is built in already. With access to all recorded content on all TiVo DVR's in the house, every channel accessible via cable card on the 4 tuner DVR, a bargan. The $0.99 p/m converter from Time Warner Cable is featureless, will never access any DVR!

Looks HBO is going to be available on DTA at least temporary for the HBO free preview this weekend

it is on 501 on the DTA and is listed as "HBO DTA" as the channel identifier.

Hmm I wonder if HBO DTA is for hotels and Time Warner removed the analog channel that was reserved for it analog in their hospitality lineups? I cannot tune it so I am going to assume it is for Hotels such as best western etc.

It would make since now that they are deploying DTAs they are probably giving them out to hotels now to use in their rooms to compensate for all of the analogs that have been dropped over the last few years plus they would get all of the local channels except for KDTN and HD versions of locals and Discovery Channel HD.

I know that there is a node next to the Holiday inn near the parks mall in Arlington so they likely have TWC services.
