I picked up a technet license on sale for $250. If you can find it on sale, it's worth the extra hundred dollars over this. Although I picked up the license for Windows 7 and Office 2010 pro.

Is this an upgrade from 32 to 64 as well (if the hardware supports it), or just 32?

Determine if 32 or 64-bit is right for you

...

Each package contains two disks: one with the 32-bit edition and one with the 64-bit edition of Windows 7. Please make sure you know which to install on your PC. The benefits of 64-bit are most apparent when you have a large amount of random access memory (RAM) installed on your computer, typically 4 GB of RAM or more. In such cases, because a 64-bit operating system can handle large amounts of memory more efficiently than a 32-bit operating system can, a 64-bit system can be more responsive when running several programs at the same time and switching between them frequently. Please note: if you are presently running 64-bit software on a PC running a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista and you move to a 32-bit edition of Windows 7, your 64-bit software may no longer work.

So you can take a XP home 32 bit to W7-64 Home Premium with this pack? I thought that wasn't allowed before?

If you are going from Vista 32 bit to 64 bit or 64 bit to 32 bit you must do a custom (non upgrade) install. However, going from XP to 7 always requires a custom install.

So in other words, NO you can't go from XP Home to W7-64......

Then I am not interested..... For any price...

Stop trying to make it sound one way, when it isn't

"Family Upgrade with both 32 & 64 disks" Leads one to think this is possible....

It appears to me it ISN'T AN UPGRADE ----- IT'S A SIDEGRADE...

There!! My wording makes as much sense as Microsoft's!!!

Introduction
To upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7, you'll need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. A custom installation doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings. It's sometimes called a "clean" installation for that reason.

A custom installation is more complex, and it can sometimes take a couple of hours to complete. We created this five-step tutorial to help guide you through the entire process each step of the way.

You are aware that MS changes to Technet licensing makes the keys expire after the subscription runs out, right?

Since when?

I know they reduced the number you can request, especially for the server products. A little f'd up, but you can do multiple activations.

Though, you aren't suppose to be using TechNET licenses in a production environment

I believe it was at the same time they reduced the number of licences.

Pretty sure I read an official response from Microsoft saying the only thing they changed was the number of available keys. No where in any of the print or web media does Microsoft claim you get 10 keys per product. This allowed them to change the number of keys available per subscriber. They do, however, stress the fact that the keys don't expire after the subscription ends in several places.

You seem to be correct. However, the language stressing the 'during the subscription period' could be the precursor to expiring keys.
