Finnally New Internet Packages From Shaw/Mountain Cable

Great to see that Shaw is finally starting to offer new stuff for mountain cable. There new High Speed Extreme is 15mbps. I can finally ditch the business account (10mbps) and save myself 149.99 a month. Wish we'd get High Speed Nitro here though (100mbps).

Hope to see more improvements from Shaw

how much are High-Speed and High-Speed Extreme plans alone without phone and/or tv???

currently i pay around $53 before taxes and my speed is nowhere near 15Mbps.

btw, it's good to see Shaw puts the up/download speeds on the website. Mountain used to hide them unless you call their CS.

Well its about time. Decent prices I suppose, but their still not offering the speeds that Shaw has been offering western canada for a few years now, 25mbit should be at least on there, 100mbit is a bit crazy I don't expect that anytime soon.

I approve the speed boost finally, its just too little too late, its still not enough to make me switch back from Fibe 25 from Bell.

Come on Shaw make me an offer I can't refuse!

I see value in Shaw Extreme with Powerboost when compared to other cable companies. 15 mbps down and 1 mbps up for 47 dollars a month is a good deal.

Hahahahah oh WOW 1 mpbs upload! Let me just hop into my time machine and go back 10 years when that was actually impressive. I mean I dunno but maybe, MAYBE It might be a good business plan to be the only isp without data caps, but I guess ripping people off is more profitable

God forbid Canadians actually get upset about having the worst internet in the first world, but I guess it's more fun to be a stupid rube who enjoys getting fisted by

Canadian telecommunications is a joke. A bad one.

Shaw has always had download limits. They just never posted them. Soft cap is the rule and currently there is no charge for over usage. Business internet will also be getting a speed upgrade. I used to pay 149.99 just for 10mbps speed so dropping to extreme is much better. Unfortunately since I live in Dunnville, Shaw is my only choice and I do agree with shawblows about there speeds being a little outdated. When I moved to dunnville 5 years ago I came from Niagara and had 16mbps speed there. Imagine my surprise dropping to 5mbps (at the time). Since I can't move any little upgrade is welcome

So if I was allready paying the max amount ($47.99) for there fastest internet before this extreme service, will I get updated to the new service, or will they lower my bill to the regular service amount? I have not seen a speed increase as of yet!!!

I have TV + Internet + Home Phone with Shaw Hamilton.

I received a price adjustment notice (as I am sure many others did) stating that the cable + home phone portion of my "legacy" pricing was going up a couple of bucks and was encouraging me to to switch over to their new bundle packages.

I called Shaw Hamilton about this as I could tell that being a customer with Mountaincable prior to the sale to Shaw my bundle was now "grandfathered".

The customer service rep (CSR) on the phone spent more time trying to upsell me on switching to their new price plans instead of trying to answer my questions.

In the end I was able to find out that:

We're locked into our "legacy" plans unless we call them to make any change to either our cable, internet or home phone.

So to make a long story short, it is my understanding that you will have to call them to switch to their new internet plan (it will not be automatic).

But be forewarned, I worked it out that to get roughly the same tv channels + phone features + similar internet plan under Shaw's new pricing that I would be paying roughly $80 more per month. For the same friggin' stuff I currently have under my grandfathered (legacy) plan!!!

I'm keeping my internet plan as is as I do not want to lose that legacy pricing.

Wow. So it sounds like if you were a previous mountain cable customer and got talked into switching something you would then become a shaw customer.

At that point would you be subject to the 75GB usage cap that is now also advertised on the shaw hamilton website?

heapbag

@mountaincable.net

Well, kind of. We are already Shaw Customers, it's just that if you had a Mountain Cable plan (either cable, internet or phone..or all 3 "bundled") prior to Shaw taking over we are grandfathered with those old plans.

For example, for my cable I have Mountain Cables "Digital Choice TV + 3 themes".

Shaw doesn't offer "Pick 3" or "Pick 7" themes now (plus they charge extra for timeshifting!!).

My phone plan is under the old Mountain Cable plan which offers free voicemail, free call display & free call waiting.

Shaw offers 3 different phone plans (Basic, Lite & Regular) with voicemail being an extra charge under Basic and Lite.

I'm just trying to say that if you are looking at Shaw's new Cable, Internet and/or Phone plans, just make sure you compare it with what you are currently paying and ask yourself if its worth it. Because once you sign up for their new plans...your old Mountain Cable plan will be gone.

As far as the internet usage cap goes I'm unsure. Mountaincable never advertised any type of usage cap. I tried asking the Rep about this but she spent most of the time telling me that Shaw doesn't "really enforce" the cap and simply publishes such a thing as a "reference" to customers....honestly, I'm not making that up.

So again, I don't know if I am subject to a cap under Mountaincable's old internet plan. I guess I'll find out if I start downloading a lot!!

I guess time will tell. MC never had caps which made up for the slow speed.

I was with Cogeco before moving into the MC service area and Cogeco published caps for ages but never enforced them until one day they changed their minds.

Thank you very much for this info. i had a feeling that the old MC plans were grandfathered after waiting for a while and not seeing my speed go up.

agree. and i'd rather choose a slower speed with no cap over high speed with a cap. and I hope Shaw will not impose caps in the future.
