@miscgames RE: DNS problems at Hawaiiantel?

Yes me too! Same exact issue- a few sites, all at the same host are not resolving at all. They just time out. I only noticed because I was testing them on my mobile, on which I wasn't using OpenDNS. I hope it hasn't been like this for a long time.

I have a call in to tech support so we'll see where that leads.

The weird thing is that I changed the DNS to OpenDNS on my phone and then nothing worked at all. So, I changed it back and voila, all was well --even my sites-- but only on my phone (Nokia e61i running s60 3rd edition.) It's the opposite on my computer- the OpenDNS settings still work fine but Hawaiiantel's default DNS doesn't resolve my sites.

By the way, there doesn't seem to be a way to change the dns settings in the modem itself.

Will keep you posted,

Cousin Isaac

I have used TreeWalk for over 10 years due to GTE, Verizon and now HT's inability to provide reliable DNS. To be fair, the Level3 servers were ok... but TreeWalk still beat them. HT's servers often hit 4 or 5 seconds for uncached lookups... sometimes timeout, even. That's beyond atrocious.

Anyway, the site is »ntcanuck.com/ ...I haven't installed it on Vista or Win7 yet, but I believe it's possible.

That's smart. I use opendns because it is supposedly more secure. The problem is, your average user isn't going to change their dns settings. So my sites were offline for hi-tel customers- for how long, I don't know. Fixed now though. And their tech support did call me back the next day (on a weekend no less.)
So kudos to them for that!

UPDATE: my sites are back to being inaccessible via Hawaiiantel's dns.

Update 2: The sites were inaccessible again so this time I changed the dns entry at my registrar from my host's dns servers to my host's host's dns severs. That did the trick. Apparently, Hi-tel's dns servers were pointed at a very old IP address instead of just the name servers canonical name.

SO- if you encounter this issue, try changing the name servers at your registrar- you may be able to just change them and then change them back quickly to flush out any old, outdated info such as a numerical ip address.
