Most DSL is only 768K up maximum-and typical real world speeds run around 640 kbps. You need to go to ADSL 2 for uploads 1 mbps or higher-and that typically runs around 100 bucks a month (or more).
I used to live in AT&T land-and their 6/.768 DSL was around 20 dollars a month. AT&T also allowed me to access their hotspots for free. Verizon charges me more then that for HALF the download speed (3/.768) and no hotspots.
BUT...when you have an FCC encouraged/mandated monopoly on DSL (even the independents just re-sell Verizon DSL-and look at how Verizon recently screwed DSL Extreme by suddenly cutting them off from re-selling FiOS) you can charge what you want to and it's your way or the highway.
I live in the fourth largest city in the US, only blocks away from the Texan's Football stadium. These are my choices. Pay $450 per month for a T1 which still goes down twice a year for three days at a time, Comcast will sell me their fastest service but can only deliver 6/1, and I can get DSL from AT&T with speeds from the 90s. No WiMax, no Uverse and no FIOS. How pathetic is that?
