LG + Plex: A Better Approach

Frankly I think the recent announcement by LG that their upcoming 2011 TVs and Blu Ray players would include Plex is much more interesting than the Google TV plans.

With an app like Plex or Boxee built in, you'd have full access to Netflix and most of the key video content on the web.

Google TV is pretty lightweight and far behind Plex and Boxee now. The TV makers appear to be paying more attention to the Google brand than the video content. A big mistake.

It really depends on whether Google TV will be modular in a similar fashion as to what Plex is. If so, Google TV will be expandable to available content, just as Plex has been over the last couple of years. The real trick for Google will be to minimize the intrusiveness of its ads. Right now Plex introduces no additional advertisements beyond what the content distributors deliver. Much more than that may not be received well by consumers.

I'm wondering how what you mention is different in any way from google tv's offering?

Full access to netflix, amazon vod, pandora, all web content, etc

What more is offered on the plex or boxee?
