| Frontier has the capacity to *not* screw this up Bonded ADSL2+ can push speeds far in excess of 15 Mbps. Try 30-40 on short loops; CenturyLink does 15-25 Mbps on their bonded ADSL2+ service. Add 1 Mbps of upload speed to that and you're competitive with the local cableco as long as your price below their DOCSIS 3 tiers.
Willing to spend a bit more? Do bonded VDSL2 in town. Call it a "beta" so users aren't as mad when they find out that they can't get VDSL2 service...and charge $200 for setup...but offer customers 50/20 speeds, which shouldn't be too terribly hard over two distinct VDSL loops at ~2500 feet, assuming the wire is good.

| | Re: Frontier has the capacity to *not* screw this up not many people will pay that $200 just to get those speeds. more of around $75-100 maybe. | |

We're talking about 50/20 here, a speed that cable currently can't match.

| Re: Frontier has the capacity to *not* screw this up thats with the WISPs there is more to their installs than just dropping some equipment in the CO. How many Telco Techs do you see going up 40+ feet to install equipment all the time for customers? And on a roof at that? I don't see any.
and as far as the install for WISPs go; many of them use that "install" as pure profit" knowing they're not spending anywhere near that cost and just feel they can do the same as Sat. and extort $$ from their customer. -- www.twopugsbrand.com Kosher, Vegan, and Organic Certified Dog and Cat treats/foods and other products! www.etsy.com/shop/snakx4u/ Organic, Kosher, Gluten Free, Vegan Human Baked Goods

Also, VDSL2 modems are expensive, that's why I said $200.

| ummm, cable CAN and does match 50/20 speeds all the time. and they did it at a much quicker pace than any kind of DSL. The Cableco in my area offers a residential 60/5 line(which I have) and they also offer a business 100/100 line, and a ultrabusiness 200/160 line(on a single DOCSIS3 cable modem). Also, if you want to pay the $800 install cost, you can get FTTP, or FTTH(basically the same thing, just a little different way of placing it in the home/business) from CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS where I live. Once installed, they offer symmetrical 500 lines, but they are expensive as shit, so not for residential, unless you have money. They start at the 100/100 line, and for the FTTH buildout, the monthly cost is currently $485 per month for the 100/100. | |

| Re: Frontier has the capacity to *not* screw this up Metro E run over existing fiber that was already in the dmarc of our building. Cat6 from the dmarc to router on one of the floors, distributed to each unit via Cisco switches and Cat5e. Simple setup, great latency and speeds. I can pull a consistent 10-12ms ping from a server 250-300 miles away all day long.
I am in the works with rolling this type of solution out commercially to other residential buildings that are wired for ethernet, but the speeds will vary upon how much $$$ the property owners want to pay.
Regardless, services can range $20-40/mo and 20mbps-100mbps symmetrical.

1 edit | Re: Frontier has the capacity to *not* screw this up If you negotiate properly, the cost can be little to nothing. The big cost is the networking equipment. Fortunately, those costs can always be spread out with cheap interest.
I should also mention, there are providers in this area that service these "ethernet wired" buildings with awfully slow speeds. I'm talking 3mbps/1mbps to 6mbps/1mbps. Why use asymmetrical speeds when you're hauling in a symmetrical pipe???
That's the crap we deal with, and exactly why I decided to join in on the fun to improve things.

This is why verizon sold off this piece of property...
Most of the copper is not good... just average... and sometimes like my loop just downright aweful... Verizon said they could get my friend 3 meg and she couldnt get 128k out of her service... she was acually down to about 10kb/s which in my world is close to dialup...
I went with comcast (talking about voice service... I always had comcast's internet) when frontier aquired verizon for obvious reasons. Just the benefit of having the bundle is amazing... plus all three services work well and directly integrated with one another, which is nice.
