Re: [connectivity] DSL was bad, new modem has new problems What I find interesting is the sudden jump in transmit power on the downstream though while it was low when FastPath was applied. Since you have Voice service, you wouldn't happen to have any static on the line when the margin gets low, would you? Or for that matter, if there is any noise at all such as humming, buzzing or popping? |

1. Got disconnected from the internet. WebGUI would not load though I was still connected to the router.
2. Looked at modem/router, noticed internet light was the only one off, so I checked my phone like you said. I called my cellphone and heard static popping noises; I never heard those before.
3. Eventually internet light came back on but WebGUI still would not load so I turned it off and on. It rebooted with good margins but PPPoE would not connect. After another reboot, it works fine again.
So there is apparently noise on the line, but the PPP works poorly anyway. I don't think the DSL link has gone down at all, maybe once in the last 2 weeks. I never noticed any static while the internet was working. |

At times I've seen DSL lines maintain sync under large amount of noise on the line but prevent data from being transferred over the line due to the constant noise. The next time you start to have issues and hear noise on the line, call Verizon Voice Repair from your cell phone and have them check your line out with an MLT Test. If the problem still exists by then, they should be able to find it if it's an issue with their wiring.
As for the failure to establish PPPoE after reboot, I've seen that happen on older equipment too (talking about equipment from the days of Wireless B and Westell 2200s/WireSpeed modems.) and normally waiting a few minutes allows it to connect. It's more than likely something with the RADIUS servers on Verizon's end. |
