I don't want to start a flame war, but what the heck is the deal about zip ties?

I use zip ties on everything cable wise, and have never had an issue.

I can understand push/pull/weather on the cable, but zip tied cables inside don't seem like it would be a *huge* issue.

·Socket Internet ..

A lot of people have a tendency to use them wrong and cinch the living hell out of them, squashing the cable.

I don't use them because I'm blind, and I'm afraid I'll cut into the cable if I have to remove the ties for some reason. I see no reason they can't be used, if they are used correctly (I wouldn't use them on bare fiber, though. Too much chance of damaging it by accident (innerduct is OK) )

As Alphapointe said, people tend to apply them too tight.

Also, lacing is becoming more common these days due to the prevalence of fiber and data cables that cannot be crushed, and lacing allows the installer to control the pressure applied. Further, it is cleaner in appearance.

Just a pet peave of mine... comm sites should be constructed using lacing, VZW and many other carriers are requiring it more and more these days.

Man i'd love for someone to teach me how to lace. I have the correct lacing line here in the office from where our upstream provider left some after they finished, but i've not got anything else besides that.

Thanks! Yeah, people do tie them too tight...doesn't make sense. At least I don't fall into that category.

Not really, we have our major distributors like Tessco, but a quick google search turns up several places online you can buy from.

I buy the 9-Ply Waxed Polyester twine. There are other types of twine like flat ribbon type, Nomex, etc for special types of use but really for what telco/datacom/radio users require, the waxed twine is fine.
