Re: AT&T Rep: I am an idiot

said by gworkman7:

When I was in the AT&T store looking at the 4g, the sales rep said only an idiot would buy an iPhone and not put it in a case. I pulled out my 3g and said..I guess I'm an idiot.

I don't like bumper cases, never will. I've not lost a device because it wasn't wrapped in a case. Matter of fact, my wife's 3g that was in a gel case gave up the ghost after 18 months of service.

Still looking for the next "perfect" phone. Captivate is close, but not close enough.
That doesn't make any sense, you spend hundreds on a device and you don't even make an attempt to protect your investment?
At some point, you WILL drop your device. It's not a matter of if, its a matter of when.
Do you buy a car or laptop without an extended warranty?
Your not an idiot, your just a fool.

I never purchase extended warranties on laptop/PCs.
Car - factory is pretty good, however, I don't buy new or lease.

Investment? You are kidding right? A Phone will depreciate just as much as anything else. It's a phone, not an investment. And trust me, as one who drops a lot of stuff, a case will not protect it in every fall. You really think less than a mm of rubber is going to protect your phone from catastrophic damage in a fall? I've got a bridge to sell you.

I didn't case My Droid X and I probably won't. I like going naked.

Yes. Last car I bought without an extended warranty gave me 90k of trouble free service. My wife's car with an extended warranty, she used it twice, once for an oil pan gasket and once for an A/C compressor. Probably not worth the $1k she paid for it. Her car is at 90k and has no issues.

Laptop:

Powerbook G4 bought in 2005. No extended warranty. Still used to this day for our Time Machine server at home. On 24/7. Never repaired.

Macbook. Bought in November 2008, no extended warranty. Typing on it today; no issues.

Maybe if you're buying a POS Dell (they all are POS's) you need a warranty but with good machines you don't need one.

It has been statistically proven that the only fools are those that buy the extended warranties....

So if you spend hundreds of dollars on something, you have to put a case on it? Put a case on your laptop or car, and let's see how it functions, or changes the design/feel of the thing you bought. Insurance/extended warranties are better protection for all three of these things than a case.

itguy05,
Educate yourself, I just got $517 for a used iphone 4.
A month before the iphone 4 came out, I got $407 for my iphone 3gs. Check out gazelle.com and nextworth.com before spatting off again on something you obviously know nothing about.

Guess what used "other phones" are going for? I'll save you the trouble.... far less than 1/2 of what they are paid for.

Almost all Apple products hold their value well, even the iMacs which I get about 90% of what I paid for last year. Its almost like leasing for only 10% of the cost --- Apple products hold their value VERY well, the facts speak for themselves if you'd bother looking for them.
