Re: BBR Obituariessaid by Jeff:In principle I like the idea. I just don't know how it would all be verifyable - I'm sure the moderators here have limited time to track down and corroborate rumours of death. There have been real deaths on the site, and there have also been hoax deaths on the site. When they're reported, it's not always easy to tell which is which. |

The account is permanently retired. If the user happens to resurrect themselves we chastise them for the cruel hoax they're playing at the expense of those who cared. They can then carry on as the twin cousin, with a new ID. And, please forgive me for my insensitivity; but Dadkins has been in a state of death for months. I suspect we've passed a traditional period of mourning.

yes. I did actually type the word signage.

Reason: Let the dead rest. They paid their dues. |

IMO if one hoaxes a death their account gets suspended. |

I imagine lots of folks have died, and there's no way to tell the difference between them and someone who just hasn't logged in.
I'm guessing that the percentage of DSLR members who have an actual plan for someone else to notify DSLR in the event of the member's death is quite low.
In fact, I can think of two right now that I have no information about. |

Exactly, I've gone well over a year between visits, just to see the same guys in all the same boards... |

Object. The word of mouth gets the message out well enough. |

One reason, and one reason only: These people didn't give their permission to have their names/personas posted in a memorial thread.
Just because someone posted on an internet messageboard doesn't mean they would have wanted to be remembered publicly.
Keep your loved ones alive in your heart. |

Unneeded, unwanted, unnecessary, IMHO. |

Another forum I frequent has a card made that users of that forum can carry in their wallet at all times, so that if they die, whoever finds their body can use the information on the card to report their death to the forum.
The crazy thing is, it actually works, believe it or not. |

If you eat a lot your passwords will start to look like some of the words and weird shaped letters in those damn captcha authenticator things. In the event of an emergency drink a lot of beer and eat numerous large pizzas and your passwords will get scrambled. |

Also OBJECT.
For the same reason. Some of us like our 'Shadow/Lurker' status, and may wish to stay as such. |

*sign* This sounds like a good idea; though as infrequently as people die, it would be a pretty (pardon the pun) dead forum. |

It would be a dead forum (no pun intended) that would sit idle for long periods of time. If anything is done, a member memorial page with a list of deceased members would, imo, be a better choice. |
