Random thought:
We've seen our current federal government intervene in labour disputes for CP and Air Canada in the past two years. Given that our current PM is a hockey fan (poor him, he's a Leafer), will he order the NHL back to work and binding arbitration? I somehow doubt it.

Interesting thought, but...
A) this is after all, a game, leisure entertainment... sure jobs are at stake other than the players', but it's non essential.
B) The conflict spans Canada & the USA. I doubt even IF the Canadian side did something like that, what would happen? only the 7 Canadian teams would play? Doubt it.

It appears he still has two years left at $5M a year... Question is, does he get paid during the lockout, even if he hasn't played an NHL game in 3 years, his contract was originally signed to play in the NHL, and the only reason he isnt playing in the NHL is because his team has decided to bury his salary so it doesnt affect the salary cap...

N of 49th | I think Redden continues to play in the AHL as that's where he is. He cleared waivers and would have to be brought back up through re-entry waivers to be an NHL player again and be locked out. The Rangers were already resigned to paying his salary while he's in the minors, so I can't see them trying to stop paying it with the lockout as then they'd have to send him down again and continue to pay him for the rest of his contract anyway.
And Redden is making $6.5M per year on his present contract -- he can thank Slats for that one.
I think @DownGoesBrown had a good call with this thought:
Since the nickname thing is working so well for NFL players, I propose we all start referring to Gary Bettman's third lockout as GBIII.

was the Inuit language. What surprised me was the fact the "Asian"

NHL still has the preseason listed for the first two weeks of October and the regular season starting Oct 11 but who knows if any of that will happen. All the NHL is saying is they "hope" to have a meeting this week but is once again putting the onus on the PA to start making concessions. |
