Re: [Hockey] Official~ NHL thread...........scores and highlites

I'm gonna miss those Blues vs Dead Things matchups...

Also wasn't Detroit vs Chicago the biggest rivalry in the NHL with more games played between those two over the years then any other teams?

Well I'm happy we'll be seeing Detroit more. I miss those years when the leafs were in the Western Conference and I always enjoyed the Detroit games...

It sure won't help the Leafs and their playoff runs though...

Habs edge Maple Leafs in SO

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Lars Eller scored the winner in the shootout as the Montreal Canadiens edged the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-3, on Wednesday.

In the third round, Eller faked to the backhand before snapping in a forehand past Robin Lehner and Carey Price upheld the win by stopping Kyle Turris' wrister.

P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist while Brendan Gallagher and Eller also scored for the Canadiens, who have won four straight. Price finished the game with 29 saves.

Daniel Alfredsson, Patrick Wiercioch and Mika Zibanejad all scored for the Senators, who have lost six of their last seven. Lehner stopped 42 shots in defeat.

Its their good natured rivalry that should be a lesson to the league. Both are A1 goalies and I, for one, will be sad when either goes.

I agree....I will hate to see either go. Luongo is a class guy and most
likely the best poker player in the NHL.

Now that Jake Allen has been appearing in most Blues games lately and Elliott is seldom dressed (even as backup), I wonder if the Blues will be offering Elliott around?

Mike Komisarek was waived today by the Leafs (and he waived his no movement clause to allow this to happen), and Zack Boychuk was waived today by Nashville (3rd time this season he has been waived). Komisarek has already been mentioned in the TML thread, but I was just thinking about Boychuk. Here's his season so far:

Jan 31st: Waived by PIT, claimed by CAR
Mar 05th: Waived by CAR, claimed by NAS
Mar 20th: Waived by NAS

He was 14th overall in the 2008 NHL draft. 15th overall was a skinny Swedish kid.....Erik Karlsson.

I hope this kids is as good in Junior as he has been in Bantam!

The consensus No. 1 choice is Edmonton centre Tyler Benson, who
had 146 points in 33 regular-season games as a bantam this past season.

Maybe a few years from now the Canucks will draft a Vancouver Giant!

He looks like a good draft.

It's amazing to see the Giants fall so fast, when they were one of the best teams in the WHL if not the best a few years ago.

A similar fates awaits the Canucks in the next couple of years....my friends accuse me of being a fickle fan,but I'm not watching this team through rose colored glasses............mark my words,Canucks will be a bottom ranked team in the next few years.

And it may help as we can get some better draft picks to rebuild.

Here's an interesting stat: which team is the best bargain?

It's basically a measure of salary spending vs points earned, and how much each point is costing in terms of cap spending. The amount will go down as more points are earned, but it's interesting to see Anaheim ahead of Chicago even though the Hawks have more points because the Ducks have a lower payroll.

Does the stat really mean anything? Sure....about as much as +/- does.

What a game in Anaheim! Great back & forth match. Thought the hawks were going to walk away with 2 points, the bam they blow a tire. Rematch 29 march.

Stupid Oilers blew a 2 goal lead in the third and Sharks won in shoot-out. But hey - the kids are just 3 points back from 8th in the west so there is hope.

Re: [Hockey] Official~ NHL thread...........scores and highlites

(I had a look at this in the TML thread in response to a question, so I thought I'd do it for all the Canada-based NHL teams)

In a normal 82 game season, 94 point is roughly what you need to get into the playoffs (.573 winning percentage). In a 48 game season like this year, a .573 win percentage translates to 55 points.

Montreal: 19 games remaining, 43 points, need 12 points or 0.631 points per game
Ottawa: 18 games remaining, 38 points, need 17 points or 0.944 points per game
Vancouver: 19 games remaining, 34 points, need 21 points or 1.105 points per game
Toronto: 18 games remaining, 34 points, need 21 points or 1.167 points per game
Winnipeg: 18 games remaining, 34 points, need 21 points or 1.167 points per game
Edmonton: 19 games remaining, 29 points, need 26 points or 1.368 points per game
Calgary: 21 games remaining, 26 points, need 29 points or 1.380 points per game
