Re: [Hockey] Official~ NHL thread...........scores and highlites

said by dirtyjeffer:

watching the old clips makes you realize how much clutching and grabbing there really used to be back then...can you imagine how many points Gretzky and Lemieux would tally up in today's game??!

Considering for a huge chunk of his career Mario was pretty much on his own in terms of talented players on the Penguins, imagine for a moment Mario playing for the Edmonton Oilers that Wayne played for, they would have to add a third digit on the scoreboard.

Perhaps one of Mario's greatest achievements is as the owner of the Penguins, his commitment to hockey in Pittsburgh and his personal touch with his players. Its rare to find someone in management who really holds true to their beliefs like Mario.

That would have been cool to see.

I still think he was the best player ever.

Thank you for that. That clip really brought back some memories, especially seeing Paul Steigerwald of KDKA sports. Anyways, I was fortunate to have watched Mario as a rookie before anybody in Pittsburgh caught on to what he really was. We used to buy $5 tickets for games at the Civic Arena, and move down to rinkside seats before halfway through the first period. There was nobody there in those days. I got to watch Mario rinkside for a whole season, and boy was it fun.

Ya and Mario scored 30 seconds into his 1st shift.............he truly was unbelievable.

No doubt that Mario's 1992 - 93 season was the greatest season ever in hockey and possibly the greatest season ever in sports period. Sid has only missed 20 games this year and no doubt the scoring title is within his grasp.

Pittsburgh was a good team before Sid came back and now they are even better with him back, could be a good year for hockey in Pittsburgh.

I think it's half intimidation.... he just STOOD there playing keep-away right beside the Islander net... He had Jurcina confused like it was a freaking shell game!

Crosby gets 4 pts in his 1st game back...................only 10 pts behind Ove.

The game isn't over yet.

In case anyone wondered why Sid coming back was so important, the guy is an amazing hockey player and granted its only the Islanders, but he hasn't played in almost a year. Could this be another magical year like Mario Lemieux's 1992 - 93 season.

And still 12 minutes to play...

I'm so mad at myself for not activating him on one of my fantasy teams, thinking he would take it a LITTLE slow in the first game back...

He did but so did Auld.

Both teams missed the net 100 times and the Sens could have won it with 10 seconds left in the game...........Canuck's D-men looked terrible again.

Re: Crosby to return on Monday against Islanders

I think Sid will slowly ease into form and find it unlikely he'll do good right off the start.

I also think the Penguins will struggle for a bit. They have some good chemistry going and messing with that usually turns out bad. Only reason I see them not struggling for a bit or having a short struggle is Bylsma is a damn good coach.

Finally. Been long enough for Sid.

I hope he can be back 100%, but who knows if he'll play as hard as he did before, knowing what could lay ahead if he gets another concussion...

The Hawks defeat Vancouver then lose against Calgary and Edmonton. Go figure.
The Oilers remind me of Tim Tebow. Everytime the "experts" figure they'll lose, they win.

9-2 for the kids. The Hawks were definitely preoccupied with which clubs they are going to be hitting in Vegas.

Maybe the whole team got infected with that flu I mentioned.
They keep stinking out the joint I might have to cheer for the oil kids.

Did you watch the last game? With about 10 mins left in the 3rd
Schneider went down the hall to stretch and warm up. You could
see Luongo was a bit bothered by something.

Before the start of the Finals last year we were fed tv sports
segments here about Thomas' yoga, meditation, etc. Because of his
unorthodox style even our local sports reporters seemed to be
pushing Thomas as an underdog. Guys like myself who watch a lot
of hockey knew Thomas can be a real prick on the ice. I'm not
actually saying that's a bad thing. Lord, I wish Luongo had a bit
more grit!
so how does his work ethic, never give up on plays, yoga or hits on players give you a sense he is a "good guy" player??...i have never heard anyone refer to him as such.

Speaking of Burrows....he's one of the hardest workers biters I have ever
seen. I can't tell how many times I have seen him break up bite a player defensively as the first forward back. If Burrows was a Leaf he would be a
crowd favourite, but still a loser.
