God help the Flames. Any money he'll be the GM in short order after Feaster is fired for whatever reason during the season. --

KardinalDei Gratia ReginaPremium join:2001-02-04 N of 49th | He already is, in a way -- Feaster reports to him.
He's being quite coy and saying all the right things like "I'm not here to be the face/voice of the franchise" and "I'm looking forward to working with Jay Feaster", but Burkie gets the final say in things. -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars - Peart / Lifeson / Lee Join Team Helix |

said by Link Logger:I Don't understand what could he possibly add to the Flames organization? This is going to leave fans scratching their heads for a long time. The Flames are at a crossroads. They are trying to go the route of MLSE, but have no idea how to do that. Burke is here to help manage their various holdings (Stampeders, Flames, Roughnecks, a bar downtown, etc...) and turn those properties into a profitable venture. I'm also pretty sure he's going to be a key guy in terms of a.) Getting the Flames out of their lease at the Saddledome, and b.) Secure funding for a new football/hockey complex that both the Flames and Stamps can move into.
Not to mention that Jay Feaster really has made some boneheaded moves as GM, like really stupid moves, so hiring Burke gives the team a fall back option. -- I'm a man, but I can change. If I have to. I guess.

|
shanerPremium join:2000-10-04 Calgary, AB | Well yes, they want taxpayers to pay for a new crib. They've been watching the scene in Edmonton, and now the Oilers have public funding, the Flames want some too.
As for the lease, the flood has really put the Flames knickers in a knot. They are privately telling the Stampede that they want out of the Saddledome and the flood was the last straw. |

I thought I knew where it was, but the hyphenated name caught me off-guard.
