[ADSL] ADSL

I have AOL/Carphone, it's dire, but I also have a second phone line. Is there any merit to running broadband over two lines? If so, any pointers for equipment?

Yes & No.

First up, don't think you'll 'double your speed' you won't. (unless you spend a fortune on load balancing servers)

Best you can hope for is redundancy and diversity (if you choose a second ISP on the second line, although you'll still be at the mercy of the telephone line provider in terms of outages)

I've lost track a bit of what is available in the market, in terms of 'combiners' there were a few units out there that would accept two (or in some cases more) inputs, pop a firewall on them and then 'route' to a LAN port allowing the user(s) to share the services, usually in either a manually configured (use service X first) or on a lowest latency bases, for the better ones that 'tested' both paths to any given destination.

It's an expensive option. If you are dissatisfied with the service (ISP) you currently have, why not vote with your feet & change?
