scottfern posted : We currently use PRTG to monitor our local network and we have a netflow monitor on our ASA. We have a 5520 with upgraded memory so I doubt there is a hardware constraint issue.

My boss told me to call Global Crossing, but I thought it was kind of silly to call the NOC and say YouTube is slow across your circuit not to mention I doubt a Level 1 NOC knows how to diagnose that issue?

By the way, to clarify this is youtube and other flash based videos on the internet we are watching through a browser, not some web server on site that we stream out to the web.

aryoba posted : First thing first. Do you have some kind of monitoring system on your network? This way you can tell if the circuit or anywhere between the video streaming server and the client is saturated or not. You may want to check the CPU and memory utilization of all devices, including the edge router you manage, the ASA, and PC you use as the video streaming client.

As additional info, you can ask Global Crossing to do real-time monitoring on the circuit during the "slowness" event. Once you have all of necessary info, you should get better idea of what is going on.

scottfern posted : At my corporate site we have a 20Mbps Ethernet circuit with Global Crossing and we have noticed that we have a terrible time streaming any internet video. Everything is buffering and buffering which doesn't even make sense when we consistently use 7-8Mbps of our available bandwidth.

Now, we have a Cisco ASA which all our VPNs and subnets run through and acts as our gateway, and we also manage our own edge router that links up to Global Crossing.

Any tips or tricks that I should look to implement on the ASA or 2821 router to allow for better streaming performance?
