 | [cable] Earthlink (NYC) service - compatible modem for triple pl Hi - After 4 calls to Time Warner Cable tech support and 3 different answers, I'm wondering if someone here can help.
My mom has Time Warner's Triple Play service and now wants to set up wireless. I tried setting it up with two different routers (a dlink and motorola) - I know the routers worked on other systems, but not hers. It's like the cable box (an Arris) wouldn't talk to the router.
I now want to buy her a new modem so she's not using the old, refurbished one from the back of the truck and doesn't have to pay the rental fee. When I called tech support with a simple question - which ones are compatible with the "triple play" service, especially since her VOiP phone service operates from the same modem the different answers I got were:
1. Two techs said any modem will work.
2. One tech said that only Arris modems will work.
3. One said you can't buy the modem, you have to rent it and just go to the TWC office to swap for a new one if there's an issue.
Does anyone know who is right? Do I need to replace with an Arris (hard to find?) modem for the voice portion? Thanks so much for any help with this! |

| Re: [cable] Earthlink (NYC) service - compatible modem for tripl Welcome to the site.
Who is your mom's ISP - Earthlink or TWC aka Roadrunner?
I think your post would do better in her ISP forum. I can move it but need to know who her ISP is. Your title says Earthlink but you are talking about TWC so I'm confused. Please let me know. -- TH ~ NE ~ EPN ~ NC ~ TD |

 | Thank you for your response! The ISP is actually Earthlink via Time Warner Cable. Her TWC bill says "Earthlink High Speed" as the provider.
Not sure how to move this to the ISP forum - mods, can you help?
Thanks again! |

How you do that I have no idea yet but I'm sure that someone here or in the TW forum knows and can help. Here is a link that may help. »www.ehow.com/how_5956095_log-arr···dem.html |

Mark, thank you for letting me know about bridge mode and for posting the link! I'm going there tomorrow so I will try this out. Thanks again! |

 | reply to sunshineyday Just an update, in case it helps someone with the same problem...
The Arris and dlink did finally work after hours of troubleshooting and talking to dlink tech support - they will attempt to walk you through the configuration, but they weren't able to resolve. Each tech gave up by giving a solution that required hanging up (like saying I need to remove the Arris battery for 5 minutes and call back if it's still not working).
It basically required several reboots of both the modem and router and watching to see if an IP address was acquired in the WAN settings of the router.
I believe it is necessary to use a VoIP modem in order to plug the phone in...so the TWC techs who told me I could use any cable modem were incorrect.
Anyway, mom is online - watch out LOL! |
