2 edits | [PA] Another Pennsylvania ripoff... I just got my first cell bill since changing my account from California to Pennsylvania. My bill went up almost $25.00-on a $120.00 bill-and when I went over the bill I found out why: Pennsylvania charged me $31.00 in taxes and fees!
PA, I know that times are tight (hint: they're also tight for all of us too!), but taxing my cell bill 26% seems more then a bit out of line! There might even be more-there are two "regulatory" charges that I have to investigate that total another 8 bucks. |

| Here's a typical bill for one phone with ATT in Philadelphia. $16.86 in fees!
------------------------------------------ Credits, Adjustments & Other Charges
Regulatory Cost Recovery Charge 1.25 Federal Universal Service Charge 2.65 State Gross Receipts Surcharge 4.60 TOTAL CREDITS, ADJUSTMENTS & OTHER CHARGES $8.50
Government Fees & Taxes 911 Service Fee 1.00 PA State Telecom Tax 5.52 City Telecom Tax 1.84 TOTAL GOVERNMENT FEES & TAXES $8.36 ------------------------------------------------
I might switch to Metro. My kid pays $40 for unlimited talk, text, and web. The coverage is a little spotty though. |

1 edit | Not mine! Here are what mine look like:
Federal-Univ Serv Assess Non-LD $5.43 Pennsylvania State-Gross Receipts Recovery $9.47 Administrative Charge $5.94 Regulatory Charge $2.40 -------------- $23.24
And then more:
Pennsylvania State-911 Tax $5.00 Pennsylvania State-Sales Tax $11.41 -------------- $16.41
Add up the PA ones and they total $26.11 on a 100 dollar monthly bill.
Sixty dollars a year for 911? Sprint gives them 911 access for free! Sales tax of over 12 percent? Why? I though the sales tax was under 7 percent.
Yours is about 13 dollars in PA taxes-on what, a 50 dollar a month bill? |
