The Hub HD (ch 789)

Has anyone else noticed the picture looks very distorted on this channel? It looks like there are subtle vertical lines going through the picture and there are 1-inch "bars" on each side of the screen. I notice it during shows but it looks fine during commercials/promos.

Not sure what they're doing but, older programs like Wonder Years and Doogie did seem to cover all but the edges of the screen. However, if you hit the aspect button once, the aspect seemed to be corrected (but that doesn't stay of course).

That's just how the Discovery Channels air non HD programming on their HD channels. The do a slight zoom so the bars on the side of the screen are not as wide.

The Hub is part of the Discovery networks, which include Discovery, Science, TLC, Animal Planet, etc. They do a 14:9 compromise on all SD programming, which chops off part of the top and bottom while still leaving some blank space on the side.

It's still far better than that awful non-linear stretch TBS and Food Network use.
