3 mbps enough for Netflix?

I am moving soon and I was thinking about possible tech/entertainment issues and one of the possible problems I thought of is what is the minimum speed for a decent streaming experience with Netflix and/or ESPN3. Would a stable, consistent 3 mpbs connection do that?

Yes it will be enough. I have 3Mbps DSL connection that works great for Netflix. But for streaming HD it falls a bit short, frequent rebuff on Youtube.

Non-hd netflix works fine with 1.5 down.

I thinkt he HD stream for netflix is around 3.5 Mbps but for standard streaming it will be fine.

Originally had my netflix on att 768kbps dsl, worked good, buffered about 30 seconds every half hour. Upgraded to Road Runner 2megabit and it is flawless performance. Picture quality is normally VHS or better. We can even surf and download small files without affecting netflix, and have run 2 netflix streams at the same time with no problems.

Thanks guys. Verizon/Frontier only offers a top speed of 3 mbps in the area I might be moving to. I thought about going with DSL Extreme and Verizon/Frontier will probably lure me in with ESPN3.

You need a broadband connection of at least 1.5 Mb/s. The faster your connection, the better the quality. For DVD-quality video and audio, a connection of at least 3.0 Mb/s is required.

ESPN3 works fine on a 768kbps connection. If you get 3Mbps, all the better
