[ADSL] Microfilter with long wire?

Hi all,

I've recently moved into a shared house and found there was a unused phone line outside my room, across the hallway. At the moment I've got a microfilter plugged in, with an RJ11 cable trailing across the floor in front of another housemate's door, not ideal.

What I need is some kind of microfilter with a longer wire to plug into the phone socket itself, this way I could have the internet and phone in my room. All I can find are microfilters with very short wires (»img222.imageshack.us/i/86651174.gif) or ones that plug straight in to the socket (»img219.imageshack.us/i/44839095.png/).

Will a longer cable be detrimental to the connection speed? Am I better just getting a longer RJ11 cable?

Cheers!
