Attention Firefox users: Malware found in IE Tab Plus add-onSuperfish WindowShopper is hidden in the latest update for the IE Tab Plus add-on for Firefox. ("IE Tab", without the Plus, seems to be okay.) IE Tab Plus being software that installs components without the installer's consent (to post advertising) makes the whole IE Tab Plus bundle fit the description of malware. » forums.mozillazine.org/v ··· 10025897There is a version of IE Tab Plus that doesn't have the hidden add-on, which is what I had installed. But when the version update occurred it installed the malware IE Tab Plus. |

Sad. I uninstalled it right away. Been using it for a long time and it is blacklisted now. Hopefully no damage has happened. |

quote: Also, you need to be clear about the extension being discussed here. IE Tab died a while ago. IE Tab 2 and IE Tab Plus came out to fill the gap. IE Tab 2 has never had an issue.
The one being discussed here is IE Tab Plus. All three different extensions.

I did let it (IE Tab Plus update) install, and saw the options of a paid mode, the "recommended" mode to keep the product "free," and the basic mode. Based on comments here, I did uninstall it and then installed IE Tab 2. No advertising offered with that. |

I was extremely disappointed when I saw this. My first move was to get the clean version from the developer's website, but on thinking it over I went ahead and uninstalled it completely. |

This is no different than banner ads in free programs on smartphones, IMO.
You can go into the settings for IETab Plus and simply set it to 'Basic Mode' and the price comparison stuff goes away.
Edit: Disclosure: Since I didn't know IE Tab 2 was around, after looking at it, I switched from IETab Plus to IE Tab 2. Tab 2 seems to be a lot closer to the original without a lot of extra junk. So..right. |

My Proxomitron SSL was popping out alert on the superfish.com. Only until I read this topic, then I realised the culprit was IE Tab Plus. Very disappointed with the action by the developer. I have removed the extension from my 3.6.12.pre. Extension has also been removed from Minefield nightly, unfortunately, IE Tab 2 is not compatible. Even though there is a new non-adware version, it is off my PC. Fortunately, no superfish related adware was installed. No additional items were found in the extension's folder prior to the removal of the extension. If you look at the developer site, WindowsShopper has been added to the IE Tab Plus since the July build (v1.93.20100725). » coralietab.mozdev.org/in ··· ion.html |
