Re: [DVR] 500GB HMDVR coming in October I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and I received my QIP7232 2 two days ago and I can confirm it is 500GB. If you call to have one shipped to you then they will drop ship an old one and not a 7232 2. Ask for a tech to come to your house to install a new HD DVR and ask them to waive the trip charge, when the tech calls you to confirm he is headed your way let him know that you are wanting the QIP7232, this is what I did. If he does not have one ask him to call the warehouse or other techs. Hope this helps. I have attached some pics. No problems with the box at all. Thanks to this forum for letting me know about the new larger DVR! I wish Verizon would of let me known.

PS 500 GB is great!

JPLPremium join:2007-04-04 Downingtown, PA kudos:2 | reply to JayMan 007 That's probably about right. The current 160 GB harddrive holds ~20 hours of HD (give or take). The new drive is 3.125 times the size, which means that it'll hold roughly three times the amount of HD - about 60 hours. |
|
 | reply to pattymelt how did you get them to waive the trip charge? they're usually big on charging you 75 dollars even when it's not your fault or if it's something real simple. |

 | reply to pattymelt This is great news! Besides the lack of 2 tuners, this was my biggest gripe about my 6416-2 DVR. I just called verizon and was told the new DVR is not available in this market yet. Are you in a beta group? I live in Flower Mound, so expect to be in the same market as you, pattymelt. |

It IS in NW Carrollton TX, but they are currently installing it only for new customers . . . unless you REALLY insist. I had to go postal (politely) before I got anywhere. And I had to get by 2 knowledgebase readers (tech support folks) before I got to someone in Virginia that got it done for me.
However, that same person in Virginia told me that the 7232 will Not co-exist will 2500s (and perhaps other boxes), but the installer told me that he had installed both 7232s and 2500s in the same house without issue. The installer was definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer so I don't know which to believe.
The 7232 is supposed to auto activate but it is being finicky so they insist on sending an installer to activate it. It seems that the manual activate option is no longer so the tech had to insert a thumb drive into their router to get it to activate.
However, before you make yourself crazy trying to get a 7232, know that I'm Very Disappointed with it. It does have more storage space (I recorded 4 hours of World Series broadcast and it consumed only 5% of drive).
The primary reason that I wanted the 7232 was that I was hoping that it had additional search capabilities. However, it has the identical user interface as my 6416-2 had. That means no additional search capabilites or anything other new features.
I haven't yet tested the e-sata port to see if it works. I'll report back when I have done that.
The specs on Motorola's site indicated that it will output 1080p (as opposed to 1080i for the 6416), but Verizon's output menu in settings does not show 1080p as an option, only 1080i. Perhaps a software update will fix that (someday).
The only other discernable difference besides more recording time is that the unit is black in color.

 | Most know that there are no additional features other then the storage space increase. The other features are limited by the IMG. IE search capabilities and 1080p output.
The only other noticeable difference would be some of the navigation speed in the guide. The hardware itself has faster processor and more memory. You will notice flipping through the menus and scrolling through the channels goes faster then the 7216. |

Hello Tivo Premiere XL !! Minger, no offense but why did you think a new box would get you the features you cited? Did someone lead you to believe this? If you hang around here, you will learn that only the upcoming 1.9 firmware will provide the new features most of us have been requesting for some time now.
So basically remember that VZ runs a common architecture, meaning for the most part everyone runs the same software no matter the equipment they run. |

it's only cisco boxes that will have trouble with mrdvr when you have a mixed cisco / motorola stb environment |
|
 | reply to pattymelt I'm in Plano and they keep telling me I'm not allowed to have it yet... |

hubrisnxs join:2009-12-30 Fountain Valley, CA kudos:1 | it's not widely available in the least, most people will have a real difficult time getting it until it's released in larger quantities.
very few customers will have this until 1st quarter of next year. people will get it here and there, sporadically but not with any regularity until they release it in bigger quantities. |

hubrisnxs join:2009-12-30 Fountain Valley, CA kudos:1 | IF you have cisco and motorola on the same network, they will all get the guide, they will all get VOD, they will all get widgets they will all get broadcast tv.
they will not pass mrdvr back and forth.
That is a big push with verizon and they don't want to neuter thir product so they don't mix because it's not complete interoperability.
you can technically have them combined, but they will not be able to do certain things, and that will cause an influx of calls from uneducated users, and complaints that they want it all to work and to come out and replace the box for one that does the mrdvr etc...
the 7232's are in fact motorola boxes, and will 100% co-exist with 2500's.
some people on here are confusing the motorola 500gb hard drive for being cisco's, or at least that is what the comments looked like to me. |
