[OT] Peregrine Falcon

Click for full size
Squirrel Killer
The picture is not of the best quality as it was shot from my phone on zoom, and then emailed to myself for posting. I walked off the bus right across from the Capitol Building, and there on the steps was this young Peregrine Falcon. They are common in the area due to the abundance of rabbits, squirrels, and pigeons as well as the high rise buildings they can nest in. This one sat about 10ft away from me for about 3 minutes before taking off due to someone going up the stairs.

Looks like a painting or a pencil drawing more than a photograph. Pretty cool.

It was raining pretty hard, so that may have had something to do with it. I was lucky to be wearing a waterproof coat at the time.

Thanks! They nest at one of the nearby buildings here:

There's some information on it if you'd like to check it out.

Yes, I did. Those are awesome. I love the fish it has. Someone who was watching the falcon with me today said one landed on the street sign yesterday with a squirrel in it's mouth. Yum!

You should see the area where I recently moved... being on the south shore of the island, September and October can be scary sometimes as literally every bird passes by our area when migrating...

I was bringing something down to the garage this year one afternoon... everything was fine. But when I got out of the garage to go back up, the green grass and green trees disappeared. I swear, there was maybe 200-300 black birds (Not sure if it was ravens or crows) completely covering the backyard and tree. They all just sat there, quietly, staring at anything that moves (which was me at the time) for a good 3 minutes before they flew off. And as they started flying off, I saw another 200-300 of them joining these birds from other backyards and trees...

That was freaking scary.

Saw another one today in a tree. Bad shots from the iPhone camera. Thought I'd share in this thread anyway. It had a nice juicy squirrel in its talons.
