| Have these caps been enforced yet? If not anyone know when they will be for ShawHamilton?
I used to be a mountaincable customer but switched to Bell's Fibe25 for the speed boost, but now they are doing some truely despicable things regarding usage based billing, and I am looking to see if Shaw is now the lesser evil. I'm willing to go back to slower speeds (though I know Shaw has faster speeds, I'm not willing to pay 100+ per month just for internet), to get around this usage garbage.
If they've already implemented UBB at Shaw Hamilton as well, is there an overage cap? Is it just $1/gb above cap until it reaches a certain point or is it limit-less? |

rush join:2008-01-06 Hamilton, ON | i don't know when they implemented this in Hamilton. I just checked today on the website and the "bandwidth usage" function under "member" menu is now live. it asks for a MAC ID, is it the MAC of the cable modem?
I can't believe my grandfathered plan is getting fkin caps. i pay more for less speed and the least they can do is make all grandfathered plans without caps. maybe i will switch to one of the new plans now to save some money. fk Shaw. >:( >:( >:( >:( |

| That's what happens when big companies take over small companies, they ruin them.
In the meantime, I'm looking around for another provider. If anyone knows of any, let's post them in this thread.
We're at 200GB and that's just from Youtube, Justin.TV, and Netflix for this month. |

 | reply to rush it is the mac of the modem..cheers |

rush join:2008-01-06 Hamilton, ON 1 edit | i still have no idea about the caps in hamilton. i received no notice or any news on the topic of caps. on my invoice i noticed the names for my plans changed to "prorated high speed". and it seems they scrapped my grandfathered plan because my speed went up to 15Mbps but upload is still at old speed of around 0.5Mbps.
and the invoice says the price will go up by $2 on June 1.
seriously??? WTF ?!!! |
|
 | Well I just ran a speedtest and am still showing the same speed as before (6.83 Mbps). As far as caps go, I have not received any notice either. My argument is if we are grandfathered under an internet plan that had no such caps in place, then I don't see how Shaw can turn around and establish one now. Yeah, I got that notice as well..$4 increase to cable, $2 increase to internet and $1.5 for phone. This "rate adjustment" comes less than a year after the last increase in Novemember, 2010 that saw an increase to cable of $3.25 & $1 for phone. I hate Shaw with every fibre of my being. |

| Well as much as it sucks to see price increases, Shaw isn't the only one doing it, Bell has as well, and likely Rogers/Cogeco too. With economy and gas prices the way they are expect everything to just increase across the board.
In other news the founder of Mountain Cable died this weekend. |
|
 | I understand what you say about price increases on everything in general, but what sticks in my craw is the fact that Shaw has increased our rates in less than a year.
And when they do increase our rates they mention that if those of us who are "grandfathered" want to avoid the increase then we can sign up for their "new" plans, which if you do the math you realize that you will end up paying much more to retain what you had under the grandfathered plans. (i.e. Mountaincable timeshifting = free, Shaw = $5).
And another thing (I'm shaking my finger lol) I've noticed for the past few months that Shaw now charges me a "Telephone" tax, not GST/PST (HST) as that is listed seperatly but a seperate telephone tax. For what? It's like Rogers with their Government Recovery Fee or whatever they call it.
Anyways, that's enough venting for now because all I am doing is pining for something (Mountaincable) that will never come back. |

 | P.S. Yes I heard about the passing of Owen Boris, the founder of MountainCable. R.I.P. From all accounts it sounds as though he was quite a pioneer and very active in the community.
Can't blame him for selling his small independent company for $300 million that's for sure. |
