Re: CenturyLink Prism TV

Are you in an urban area?

Me? No, I live outside of Jefferson City, MO. But I guess I'm close enough to a CO or DSLAM or whatever to get it. 10 meg is all I qualify for but like I said, they spent four hours installing everything. I asked the techs specifically if the Prism service would affect internet speeds and they said no, different lines in. I've had the service for over a year now and they were right. I will be honest I don't know the technical details but we get 10 meg internet, phone service and Prism HDTV with a whole home DVR all on one bill from CenturyLink. The service was a tad stuttery at first, but they have fixed it since and it has been rock solid for the better part of a year.

Most of us cannot get that many lines. You have the equivalent of 2 for the HDTV alone. When they say we can't get HD and internet, it is location specific, not lying. Not that CL doesn't lie. That just isn't one of the lies. Typically the reps are honest fellows but they don't control corporate decisions about overselling the capabilities of the available lines.

I seldom watch TV so that service is not on my list. I would just like my little old internet service to work like it should for research, gmail and the download of some favorite vodcasts. And if this week is any example that seems to be asking way too much from CL.

It has snowed, so when that melts I may drive over to SuddenLink and see what they can do for me for internet. I don't really need the phone either. $25/mo sounds good (Compared to the $80 for CL) unless there is a devil in the details.

Huh. I've never heard of that. I know where you can get Prism at all is fairly limited due to distance from facilities that are able to handle it, but I never heard of them saying you can have HD Prism OR internet and not both.

Well, my Prism service over the past 3 weeks went from OK to terrible! I was getting stoppages, pixelation and just plain bad reception. I of course called and was scheduled for Monday(11/14/11). Then Sunday morning when I tried to watch the F1 race on Speed channel the whole system was down. I held for an hour and was told it was a bad DVR update! When it finally came back on it was almost unwatchable. Then out of the blue , my cell phone rang and it was a CL tech saying he would be at my house in 5 minutes!!
It seems they do work on Sunday and I was on his list. After listening to my complaints and checking things, he spent 3 1/2 hrs replacing all the coax in my entire house!! I even offered him a $10 tip which he refused. He knew what he was doing and said that this should have been done at the beginning.
Guess I will keep it a while longer.
So far..so good.

I just had a Centrylink Prism TV installer tell me that with Prism I can only stream one line of HD. This means that if I wanted to watch the same HD program on my three TVs that would work. But, if I wanted to watch 3 Different HD programs on the 3 TVs at the same time that will not work. I currently have Direct TV Hole House HD. I can watch HD Programs on any of my 3 TVs, at the same time, and they can be different HD programs. If I switch to Prism I would be going backwards in technology. It is too bad that the sales people don't tell you this.

I was getting two HD streams but CL decided that they needed to cut one in an effort to solve my reception problems. They sent a line tech out yesterday to check lines and his response was that every time a tech touched a line,or installed a new customer I would have freezing or pixilation issues! He did agree that CL rolled out Prism without having the infrastructure to support it. His story about my reception issues sounds like a load of BS!!
I will be returning to Dish if the issues continue.
And I will not be recommending Prism to anyone!!

Got five boxes for five tvs and nobody bothered to tell us you can only watch four tvs at a time so one of the tvs is good for nothing, also, you only get dvr functions on one tv,good thing I did not cancel my dish network yet, DVR in every room, little more money but worth it. Two hours in realized prism is crap

You can watch all 5 TVs, but the house has a 4 live stream limit - the 5 TVs can share 4 live streams.

For example, if it is Super Bowl Sunday and every TV is watching the game, even on all 5 TVs, that would only be 1 consumed stream

Update on Prism. After the last tech, I was pissed..He told me that that was a good as it was going to get and I could either switch back to Dish or put up with it!
I made one last effort and called tech support again and they sent a different tech. He could not believe what the other tech said and quickly figured out who it was..LOL
He commented on all the errors in the router/gateway and how hot it was. He the installed a new one and !!! No problems since then!! I am afraid I will jinx it by writing this...LOL
Hopefully I can once again watch TV.

Re: CenturyLink Prism TV - HA !

I signed up for Prism. Picture was great! The signal feed CRASHED after 6 days, because it is a telephone company first (with union repair men) it took 32 hours to get a repair guy to my house.... that sucks when you want to watch TV. It was repaired and 10 days later it crashed again. It was THREE DAYS (3) before a repair man came to my house and explained they were having problems at their switching station, "sending new technology through antiquated equipment". The reason I tried Prism was my DISH TV signal would fade out during a rain storm. Dish TV signal loss for a maximum of 20 to 30 minutes OR Prism signal loss for three days? DUH! I cancelled Prism and went back to DISH TV!

The thread spans a 15 month time period, and the second post in the thread is from one of the original online Support Team Members.

The only public posts they are going to make, anyway, is to contact them for assistance.

Prism is not anything special, just TV from another provider. It is limited to four streams, only one or two in HD, and is only available in certain areas.

I looked into the service. Even if it was available on my DSLAM, I wouldn't sign up for it. I'll stick with DirecTV and my three dual-stream (all active at the same time) HD DVR's.
