wwu123 join:2009-04-28 Los Altos, CA | reply to SatManager Interestingly I had a similar problem that I just resolved, but not sure if this helps you. I just had Centurylink DSL Internet service installed last week, and also a third-party VOIP solution from Lingo on top of the DSL Internet.
It worked fine for two days, then the Internet service was also dropping a lot of packets. The DNS seemed to resolve, but 75% of outbound pings would not come back. But just like with your Prism TV, mostly the Lingo VOIP would mostly work OK.
What had happened was that I had the telco line coming in to the DSL modem on the the whole-house wiring on the 2nd line; the Lingo VOIP I fed back into the whole-hour wiring on the first line; that way I could plug multiple analog phones into any jack in the house. An old Siemens phone system that I'd plugged into the VOIP via another phone jack was causing enough EMF interference between the two pairs of wires to disrupt most of the packets.
Once I removed the Siemens phone and plugged in another phone, the EMF went away and the internet was working fine again. I've gotten consistent 5.9mbps down, 1 mbps up since then. |

 | well my experience has been both good and bad.. but now somewhat ridicules . seems i was quoted the wrong price from centurylink for the whole package .. ( i was never told about the install either .. that took 3 trips to get right ) once it was runnin it was pretty good but once i got the bill i called to get some clarification on the charges .. i was on the phone with them for over an hour and a half and they still couldn't explain it to me clearly .. ( why are they tryin to be like comcast ?/ don't they know we all hate comcast? ) when they finaly explained it to me i was just about floored .. it seems that in order to give you the price they advertise they have to give you a break on your internet .. so at the end of a year your internet goes back to the original price .. talk about a shell game .. ( again tryin to be comcast ) then they will charge you for the dvr if you get the 100 dollar package at the end of a year .. no mention of that upfront tho . ( again tryin to be comcast ) i was told before the install when i was askin about it that the only increase would be 10 dollars at the end of the first year .. it seems their customer service techs are not that well informed .. at the end of a year it will go up about 37 dollars.. so i told them when i found out the ugly truth to take this out and put everything back like it was .. i would have never ever ever ever agreed to this upfront had they been honest with me .. they said ok and would come out on the 28th of march to uninstall and put everything back as it was .. that was around the 17th of march .. the 28th came but they didn't .. meanwhile i have no tv and can't get the old directv back cause this prism is now hooked up to my internet too .. so they're holdin me hostage .. they said they would call me the next day cause it was a mistake and that someone had to uninstall it because of the internet modem i had .. they never called me back .. on april fools day i got an empty box from ups with instructions on how to ship the modems and dvrs back to comcast .. whoops i mean centrurylink .. you can see how they're tryin so hard to be comcast i can't tell em apart..so here i sit waitin for someone from centurylink to get back to me and fix this .. all i wanted was someone to give me what they originally sold me .. not what they say after the fact..oh yeah i forgot to mention their promo when i signed up.. showtime for 5.95 .. seemed like a fair deal .. the only deal they offered .. dirctv and dish will give you everything free for 3 months .. even comcast will too sometimes .. but not prism .. and then when i got the bill they told me no they don't offer that. and that was that .. as if i made the whole thing up .. all i can say is get everything in writin before you get prism cause i didn't .. i merely took them at their word when i talked to the service rep .. seems they either don't know or don't care or outright lie .. this has been the worst experience i've ever had with any kind of tv service ever .. is this because of the century tel merger ?? i don't know .. i never had any trouble like this when it was embarq .. i was a loyal customer then .. so .. are they mergin with comcast sometime soon ?? or have they already ?? sure seems like it .. |

 | reply to CAPEGIFTS BTW who is the DSLAM vendor for the ADSL2+ in the PrismTV pair bonding deployments!? |

DrD join:2008-03-03 Harrisonville, MO | There are two DSLAMs in use. Both an Adtran TA-5000 and a Calix C7 are used for the IPTV deployments. |

They will tell you anything you want to hear, until you get your bill. Quality? If you want quality TV go to DirectTv or DISH Network! |
|
 | to dogday, i was longin for directv as soon as i got the first bill and they couldn't explain it to me .. and they tried for over an hour .. still couldn't do it .. anyone out there ever have any luck with the billin dept on that ?? i've been tryin to get this taken out since the 17th of march and so far they haven't come or even called .. i've never seen anything like this .. |

 | reply to CAPEGIFTS Hi, I just had Prism TV service installed 6/9/2011. I have to say the installers came out answered all my questions before installing the service. My house was a bit of a challenge to install as I do not have good attic access and did not want any wires attached to any exterior walls. I was here through the whole install process and they did a fantastic job. Took all day but that's ok! The results are well worth the process. I had Direct and never had the picture quality, that I now receive. I have had a couple of issues and I know it is new and the bugs are getting worked out but my concerns are.
:The service allows you to view pics or videos from your computer to the TV. You can only view them in a thumbnail size, not full screen.
:Same with videos, from say like You Tube, Your own home Videos. This is big to me as we take a lot of videos and I was ensured this is in the development.
:I have had some slight intermittent pixxelation but not much!
Over all, I love the quality and the service Century Link brings. 24/7 Tech Support!!! With someone who speaks English.
I would highly recommend the Prism TV service.

lmbb_69Premium join:2003-01-27 Las Vegas, NV | reply to CAPEGIFTS Just had PrismTV and Internet Service installed today (06/25/2011) here in Las Vegas on (4) four televisions (no DVR) with PrismTV and (3 months free Prism HDTV) switching from COX Internet and Basic, Extended Basic TV service (no Boxes). I must say, I am disappointed with not being able to watch Prism HDTV on more than (1) one TV at a time. And not having the ability to select/deselect the channels the (STB) set top box will surf through when using the up/down channel buttons on the remotes. It would be much more convenient for the channels you do not receive to not appear. I was told the picture quality for PrismTV was 720p and would fill the 16:9 screen. Only if Stretched or Zoomed does it fill the screen. Considering removal . |

| *I have no working knowledge of actual Prism TV*
If the software mimics the AT&T U-Verse version of the software (both are Microsoft Mediaroom, so it should), you can edit the appearance of channels on the Guide, thru the "System Settings" option on the far right of the Main Menu. There you can de-select channels to "hide" & then Save your selections |

trekkie join:2011-06-27 Wake Forest, NC | reply to CAPEGIFTS It's on the way for me in Wake Forest, NC. Supposed to install on 7/1. I go from 5 to 10MB DSL and add the full monty on their package.
One question I can't find the answer too. They do 'season pass' features like most DVRs right where you can record all new episodes of a season and things like that right? i'd think the web would be full of screaming if you couldn't but just wanted to make sure. |

 | reply to CAPEGIFTS i had an appt. today for a install from 9 to 1 at 145 i called when they didnt show or call. they called thr tech and he said he couldnt make it today due to bad weather theres only a very light rain. and they couldnt tell me when they would come. bad service are ready wtf... |

 | reply to CAPEGIFTS Do they have any DVR or receivers that have the time on them. I used to use the brighthouse box as my regular clock before but they boxes for Prism TV have no time display on the box. Do they sell a different one I can get with time? |

 | reply to CAPEGIFTS Ok I just got my first bill and holy cow its more expensive then I thought. I thought their installation was free but I see there is a one time fee for Central Office Line Conn and also Primary Service Order for a total of $53.00 is that correct I thought installation was free? Also a HSI activation fee of $16? I dont understand I knew about the prorated amount and budged for it but thats $70 that I havent budged for. |
|
 | reply to CAPEGIFTS So far I like the service however I got my first month bill and holy cow man all these damn fees.
First I wasnt told about the one-time HSI and Line fees for one time which total to $69 which thankfully I got wavied, however now for the phone service there charging me Subscriber Line Charge - Interstate and Non-Telecom Services Surcharge which is a recurring fee of 8.32 and Carrier Cost Recovery Fee which is Long Distance for 3.69, plus my Free HD and $20 promo was suppose to be 6 month and 12 months has reverted back to 3 and 6 months and I have to call to try to renew it once its down.
I thought I was going to save with this service over bright-house but after 6 months its mostly the same. Just wanted to give people some heads up that the phone + Internet combo will probably cost more then there telling. |

has the Las Vegas Prism experience gotten better for you in the last month? Would you consider switching knowing what you know now? |

Nimble1 join:2011-07-13 Saint James City, FL | reply to CAPEGIFTS Got mine installed a few weeks ago but have been away until this week. First impressions: picture quality is very good...had to adjust the TV a bit but very nice. Was told that I would only have SD on second TV but have great HD on both sets. Had a wierd thing happen today, the HD went out and got a message that my TV could not support a HD feed? Was going boating so left it until I returned and its OK...? Have to see if it happens again. Overall, I like it but time will tell. |

| You can probably only record one hd program at once, nimble. If you're recording one you can't watch another (I think). You can watch two, but if one is recording it takes up all the hd goodness I guess. Can anyone get more technical than that? lol I'm not doing a good job explaining here... |
|
Nimble1 join:2011-07-13 Saint James City, FL | Have not tried to record two HD programs at once yet. Will have to give it a try and see what happens. What I was saying was that at the Prisim store, I was told that due to where I live, the signal was probably not strong enough for 2 HD feeds. Apparently he was wrong, even the tech was surprised that I got two HD pics. |
