Competitive upstream rates?

Hi Travisc,
Does Powergate have any upstream upgrade options coming in the future? Compton has always been good at laying the smack-down on tempting features by competitors. A certain evil corporation did an ADSL2 roll-out in Uxbridge recently. 16/1mbit downtown and 12/1mbit for subdivisions For an additional $5 there's an option to upgrade the upstream to 7mbit.

Is this feature a possible addon for Compton customers?

Really, what addresses is this available at? I was unaware that Bell had done any upgrades in Uxbridge recently.

My address in the Mason Homes subdivision shows all I can get from Bell is their wireless stick... Can always count on them for accurate info!

But to answer your question, we are planning to do a DOCSIS 3.0 upgrade in 2011, which will make significantly higher speeds available both on the upload and download.

Our fastest available residential speed right now is 15 Mpbs/1.25 Mbps.

Living out in the sticks eh? I'm around the corner. Carmody Lane L9P1A5 should give a peek at their area offerings. Random phone numbers from Brock St W shows higher speeds the closer to Victoria St you get.

What are the real world speedtest speeds during peak hours at your location for that package?

I'm currently with Teksavvy and with the caps on the new packages I would be paying about $60/mo for 300gb. My usage for the past 6months shows between 85 to 200gb /mo made of mostly of NNTP and FTP traffic.

Would this be acceptable usage without penalty under your soft cap policy? Do you throttle/speed limit 3rd party NNTP traffic?

For $60/mo I'd rather be giving my money to a more ethical company for a connection as long as I can use it the same way.

The website still refuses to give me any information, must not like me for some reason.

Speedtest I just did:

That kind of usage would be fine at this time. I will tell you that we are looking at implementing usage caps but this is probably 6-12 months away, and personally I would prefer us to be closer to Teksavvy's levels than to Bell's.

Sounds good. You will most likely see me as a customer in a month or so.

I'm sorry to hear about the caps. I hope they will be fair tot he actual cost of network bandwidth vs a copy of bell and rogers. They seem more like a cash grab from these companies than a fairness/quality of service attempt. i.e. Roger's 50mbit for $99 and only 175gb to burn through.
