Is my modem in Bridged mode?

The sticky on top explains how to place the modem into bridge mode.

Although my modem is "supposed" to be in bridge mode, the NAPT mode is "Enabled", which is different that what is listed. The WiFi is disabled and the rest matches... except for NAPT.

In bridge mode, should my router have my external IP address (68.202.xxx.xxx) or the internal one (192.168.0.3)? (it was assigned the internal one by the modem)

Is it possible that the tech did NOT fully place the modem into bridge mode?

Modem:SBG6580
Router: Cisco/Linksys E-3000
Service: Lightning

Your router should not have a 192.x.x.x address if it's bridged.

Thanks ISPGEEK... seems like he had not completed the job. So, I will now complete the process and report back

This is Flashfox using my phone. How long should it take to get an IP address? Still waiting for IP.

1 edit

No joy...

I had to return to NAPT "Enabled" to get back on-line. After turning NAPT to DISABLED, I *never received an IP address.

- E-3000 Router WAN port to SBG6580 Modem Port 1

- Same computer and other peripherals connected to the router

- SBG6580 Wireless set to OFF (primary - as before)

- SBG6580 NAPT set to Disabled then applied

- MODEM reboots, Green, blue, blue, green (top to bottom)

- MODEM is accessible for ~1 minute

- Router gets the old 192.168.0.3 address

- MODEM LEDs stay as above but no longer accessible (modem address times-out)

- Router loses the address and goes to 0.0.0.0

- *10 minutes later, still nothing.

===========

- Rebooted modem (power-cycled)

- During the ~1min window where I see the modem, I changed back to NAPT "Enabled" and Applied.

- After modem reboot, 192.168.0.3 re-assigned to router.

- Connectivity returns.

What might I have missed???

Did you follow the bridging instructions completely? Also once you have bridged your modem reboot the modem first then your router.

Hmm... I followed all of the instructions to the letter. I just went back to the "sticky" and quite honestly, I do not see any mention about the need to reboot the router in any of the 7 steps. As I read it, I should have been in bridged mode after the modem reboot.

You know what, I was thinking I should reboot the router but as it wasn't listed, I opted to come back here. I'll retry later and this time I'll reboot the router after rebooting the modem.

Ya gots to reboot the router when you switch from non-bridged to bridged.

Shall do... a suggestion though: Perhaps the sticky could be updated to mention this as a "step 8"?
