luckily there is no Time Warner here lol

Sinclair is always in a retransmission battle with the cable companies... in south Georgia, they just managed to eke out an agreement for now with Mediacom. I think it comes back next year. I think they can care less for the local Sinclair station here, WTWC, a NBC affiliate. No news, only NBC programming and court shows. Station has been plagued with various technical problems. The south Georgia viewers are likely happy with WALB, the Media General NBC station in Albany, or WCTV/WSWG.

Why can't the stations revert to must carry when the agreements end, so viewers wouldn't be adversely impacted?

Because then the network couldn't have its heaping helping of the dead carcass.

They can't have it both ways !! As I understand it, once a station asks for compensation, they lose the right to invoke 'must-carry'. As well it should be too !

Not invoking the right of 'must-carry' doesn't give the provider the right to negotiate with another station in a foreign DMA -- I think it should.

Why does your station in Tallahassee sound alot like KDSM FOX 17 in Des Moines? (No News Cast of there own with only FOX programming and court shows)
Someone please buy this horrible company

They make Mediacom look good by comparison

Why would they want to? The whole point is that they can ask for compensation or threaten to pull the signal.

Besides they are only allowed to switch between must carry and restans consent only once every three years.

Not totally true. They can switch once every three years. No sooner.

Either way, safe to say that once a station goes the compensation route, they'll never go back to 'must-carry'. It's obvious that they can't squeeze the advertisers for more money so instead of adjusting their budget, they just make up the loss of income from other sources.
