Show off your speeds! (Nov 2010)

Sprint users have a speed test thread...we should too!

Taken right off-campus near »mines.edu with a first-Gen Rocket stick, -69 signal on HSPA+ according to the T-Mo Connection Manager. Latency is decent, speeds are meh:

Pings to a Level3 router in Denver are a bit jumpy but tend to be on the order of 70ms. If I didn't know any better I'd think T-Mobile was using DSL to feed their tower here, which explains the 20ms latency jump between here and downtown Denver. Also explains the speeds I'm getting...

It is really nice though that in Denver T-Mobile goes right out to the Internet via Level3 (mostly) and XO (a little bit). Not sure about Verizon, AT&T or CricKet (will test them out later) but I know that Sprint hauls traffic to Chicago, Dallas, Burbank or some other location before even hitting the SprintLink backbone, which then has to go to the Internet. Which means that even on WiMAX Sprint has higher latency than T-Mobile *shrugs*

A couple blocks away, in the campus library, I'm EDGE only. Then again, it's probably one of the faster EDGE speeds out there...

-89 dBm signal. This is why my main phone is Sprint rather than T-Mobile.

Backhaul-constrained. About two blocks from my apartment.

T-Moble Must Be Flakes!

I have Virgin Mobile over Sprint and the speeds are really slow, I only get around 400k most of the time but to compensate ping times are really long too! I was going to get the T-Mobile unlimited data plan for $40/mo but just checked and it's not even on the web site anymore! They must be total flakes at T-Mobile, everything is changed around everytime I check the web site and a lot of it doesn't work. Just for the heck of it I tried adding the $50 plan with a 2 yr. contract and a SIM card and it won't let me add the SIM card, the only option is to buy a new phone!
What am I going to do with that USB modem I already ordered if I can't even get T-Mobile any longer?

Go to a T-Mobile store. They should be able to take care of you. I got my T-Mobile webConnect non-contract SIM...for free...from a T-Mobile kiosk in my local mall.
