[ NJ] New Jersey legalized SHAKEDOWN!

So, I got pinched in West Princeton, NJ for a temporary plate that had expired the day before. A 55 dollar no points ticket. I sent in the money-and a few days later got another notice that now the fine was up to 65 dollars. I called again and was told yes, they had received my payment, but not quickly enough-so now they needed ten dollars more-which I immediately sent them. Today I got a notice tha they had issued a warrant for my arrest for not paying my ticket-and telling me that: "to avoid the embarrassment of an arrest" I have to drive the hour to West Princeton and post ANOTHER 60 dollars as bail!

I feel like these crooks are are SHAKING ME DOWN!

No such place as West Princeton, NJ. Do you mean:
• Princeton Borough
• Princeton Township
• West Windsor Township

Anyway, be glad they didn't impound your car. I know someone who let their registration expire. The police impounded the car, leaving the guy's wife stranded. I think she had a child with her at the time.

However, Chris Christie, when he was US attorney, was stopped for speeding while driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle but allowed to drive away!!

Typical of NJ. We in PA consider NJ to be a communist state where you must obey every traffic rule to the "T" or else face huge fines. You are new to the area but you will learn to stay out of NJ whenever possible.

Remember, you can get into NJ from PA for free. The commies there force you to pay when you cross the bridges to come back to PA.

Our car broke down on the way from Los Angeles to PA and we had to buy a new one in Oklahoma City, OK. They gave us a 30 day plate. Anyone who has ever moved across country for a new job knows that it takes a month to find out where you want to live, find an apt., etc.

The irony was that I was on my way back to my mother in laws in Secaucus, NJ where we were temporarily staying while our furniture was making its way across the country. My wife wanted the car in her name. In PA you have to have a PA driver's license to register a car, and to get a PA license you need an original copy of your birth certificate. Due to criminal activity in the Hudson County, NJ, clerk's office (what else is new?) every one born in Jersey City, NJ now has to travel to Trenton to get a Birth Certificate (and my wife was born in Jersey City). The extra 3 hours this took made us 10 minutes late to the Driver's License Center in Bensalem, PA (why does it close at 4:15? That makes ZERO sense!).

Anyway, we missed the time and on the way back we got busted. We tried to explain to the cop what was going on (and even had the paperwork on us), but all he wanted to do was bust us. The next morning we got the car registered.

The ticket was 55.00. I sent it in, but apparently not fast enough-as this 10 dollar thing crossed in the mail. I sent in the extra 10 dollars, and they STILL issued a warrant for my arrest. Can you imagine? They want to arrest me over TEN DOLLARS???!!!
How does THAT make any sense? I firmly believe that NJ is THE most corrupt state in the USA right now.

The state will have a big turnaround after Chris Christie, the new governor cleans house. Give the man some time and he will make NJ a better place to live, work, and drive through. He was a federal prosecutor and doesn't take any crap. Christie is the best thing to happen to NJ in a long time.

There's a website devoted to corruption in NJ @ »www.nj.com/corruption/

what's the rest of this incident? was it "unregistered" because he didnt have the registration card or was it "unregistered" because it really was unregistered?

ive been stopped with expired registration and insurance and drove away...
might be a diff situation tho

The ten dollar check came back in the mail today-mailed by THEM

When I called them yesterday, they claimed they had no record of ever receiving my $10.00 check-but today it came back in a hand addressed envelope from the court-with a 'bail waver' and instructions to send them 60 dollars. I HATE being lied to-but I suppose it's typical for ANY community in New Jersey!

They are shaking me down a total of $114.00 for a stupid ticket. I'm going to pay it and stay out of their crap state as much as possible!
