Cable modems that route

Currently I have a DSL modem (speedstream 5200) that routes and firewalls for me. I plug this into an 8-port netgear switch. It works great.

I'm about to switch to cable, however, and I'd like to know if anybody has a recommendation for a cable modem that will do the same thing.

Thanks.

i work for time warner cable as a field tech.

we offer a wireless gateway which costs 10 dollars more than standard internet service per month. it is also included free with some packages. we use varying models, depending on where you are. Here we use gateways from Motorola, Netgear, and SMC. the regular motorola model has one ethernet port. the netgear has four, and the smc comes in a one port and a four port model. all of them are firewalled. the one port models don't route so they won't be compatible directly with a switch.

unless you buy your own modem you will get whatever the technician has in stock.

if you are in an area that has roadrunner turbo plus (a 20x2 wideband service) then it comes with a free wireless motorola gateway with four ports and 802.11n.
