The Big Texas Toy Run 2010

The only things that now remain of The Big Texas Toy Run are the charities it supports.
What once was the best “Toy Run” in the country has been brushed aside by the cities of Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington.
According to them, or more their “citizens”, they no longer want the noise and road closures, just like Grapevine had claimed a few years back.
So The Big Texas Toy Run has been reduced to starting in big parking lots in an industrial area and an out of the way baseball/sports complex with nothing else around, no restaurants, no coffee shops, nothing other than the big parking lot.
Now, instead of everyone going to the same place, there are TWO “ending locations”.
I do appreciate Billy Bob’s and Gilley’s for stepping up, but of course they plan to make a lot of money from the attendees, far more than they would on any given Sunday.
The Dallas side gets a 13 mile ride down I-30 for their Run, and Fort Worth get a whopping 3 mile ride for its “Run”.
I’m sure that these abbreviated runs are mainly to reduce the road closures and the impact on the motorist of the Metroplex, you know how they hate to wait for anything, let alone a bunch of Bikers.
I really feel sorry for the charities, Mental Health/Mental Retardation of Tarrant County and Metrocare Services, for even if there is a decent turnout this year, if the same format is used next year, I expect only a small number of bikers will return.
I wish it were like the last good The Big Texas Toy Run in 2008, when the starting spots were at the original locations and we all meet at The Arlington Convention Center, but alas, that will only be a fond memory now.

Well I ain't a biker, but I agree with ya 100%. The toy runs have been fantastic and I hate to see those die and I am afraid they will.
