[DSL] Photos of remote internals--okay to post? So, a couple of months ago, Bell installed a new remote down the street from me. However, they didn't put a padlock on it and apparently didn't latch the door properly, because when I was walking by it, the door was hanging open. Naturally, I grabbed my DSLR and took some high-res photos of the internals (fiber, what appear to be line cards, etc.). My questions: 1) am I okay to post these, or am I going to get myself or someone else in trouble? It *was* in plain sight. 2) Does anyone care to see what the internals of these things look like? Or is this uninteresting/something that's been covered before? Edit: Okay, so I will never ever post a question like that again unless I can back it up in a timely fashion. Sorry, folks--I haven't had a chance to post for a couple of days and, in the meantime, this thread was exploding. The photos are probably a letdown at this point. Apologies to those left hanging! |

If it's in plain sight from a public street, I don't think there's any law against it, except in the case of people doing things (thus why google blurred faces after streetview came out) |

If you have them, feel free to post them. I doubt it's illegal or anything. |

I once noticed one of these things unlocked as well, but when I opened the door to take a peek inside, I also noticed an intrusion sensor on the door...
...not 10 minutes later a Bell truck showed up. |

You'd think it would've been cheaper for them to just fix the lock than to install an intrusion sensor and a dataline.
At least the one around here is still nicely duct-taped up by a good samaritan. Nobody is going to go through that box! |

Oh well you should know according to Bell, this is so cutting edge and revolutionary they can't share the details. You will be put in Bell jail for looking in such a box. |

Post the pictures and then call Bell to get them to lock it up again. You don't want anyone messing with it especially if your line goes through there. |

Go ahead and post them if you want, Your probably not going to get in trouble.
Ive seen inside JWI's and im pretty sure I could guess fairly accurately what it looks like in the locked portion of the remote.
I would guess it probably has a serial port as well as a plastic chassis that is probably about 20-25cm tall, 3-5cm wide, I would imagine this is what the line card module looks like.
I would imagine they would be made this way to allow for a simple cost effective solution for upgrading to vdsl.
I could be wrong tho, If you post it we can know for sure. |

This is considered nerd porn 'round these parts. No trouble in posting the pictures, it's just something cool for us curious people to drool over. |
