[request] Larger Post Box Not enough lines! |
It's too small. It either needs a place to expand it, or it auto-expands... Only 9 lines? C'mon! |

In a situation where you're not using attachments, use the 'qreply' option. It does auto-expand. |

I'll *sign* to that. |

I understand. The size of the box has changed over the years, as I recall.... Heh, I suspect this is another case of someone thinks it's "too big" and others think it's "too small". I respect that you'd like it bigger though. |

*sign* (I already make it larger, though: /* dslr - larger post box */
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document url-prefix("http://www.dslreports.com/speak") {
/* pick your own size(s):
mine: 200px wider, twice the height (initially)
*/
div.soft-tbl-3 > table { width: 900px !important; }
div.soft-tbl-3 > table textarea#dslrcode
{ width: 671px !important;
min-height: 282px !important;
max-height: 400px !important;
overflow: auto !important;
-moz-appearance: none !important;
background-color: #fec !important; }
}
/* as is - coded for Stylish in Firefox */
expands up to the max, scrolls in excess of that) [Edit: remove '/remark' from the moz-doc url per the suggestion below by state .] |

That works very well, thanks. |

You probably will want to edit line three down some to just /speak so that it covers new topic creations and news replies too: @-moz-document url-prefix("http://www.dslreports.com/speak") {

Good catch. Thanks. (I haven't used it for those yet--only threw it together a few hours ago, just before whenever I posted it). |

For new posts it auto expands.
For editing old posts that are small it auto expands.
For editing old posts that are large it does not, and I added a few lines to the default, BUT for good browsers (cough cough) you always get a corner you can pull on to make it any size you want. |

I don't know what you consider a "good browser", I'm using firefox and there's no corner to pull. |

Current WebKit browsers (Safari, Chrome) and Firefox 4.0 (Gecko 2.0). Supposedly, earlier versions of Firefox can use an extension to allow resizing, but I've never tried one of them. IIRC the new versions of the browsers allow it by default, but some site authors (not here, of course) disable it--don't want their layout "messed up" by the user resizing a textarea.
CSS: textarea { resize: both !important; } |

the corner is there when auto-resize is off, for example, editing posts. If you have a scroll-bar you have a corner. (webkit). |

It sure is. I never would have thought to look for it during edit. |

You know, I remember the days when site visitors using a browser other than Firefox would see a graphic (left-hand side as I recall) suggesting they upgrade to a "better" browser .... and the link took them to Firefox's site. |

that's right! Back then, firefox was streets ahead.
I forgot firefox doesn't have resizeable text areas though. I'm not picking on it, and take my good browser comment back. |

That's odd. I installed it, and textareas (this one, for instance) are resizable. The visual marker (drag "handle") in the bottom right corner is very faint though. |

Looking closer... Nope, don't see anything nor does positioning the mouse pointer there suggest anything.
Just disabled all add-ons and making sure default theme is being used. Will restart FF and look again. |

I'm familiar with that dotted-image (common on OS X, I think). Just don't seem to have it... |
