Re: [game] Reverse Mafia

As time went by, there was a loud bang, then cops appear from every door, window and corner, surrounding the mafia. It was too late. They were caught and exposed.

Mod note: mod fails at basic math
I somehow thought navy was still alive, and thus saw as mafia could still win this round, but he was dead and Archivis, the scummy townie, needs 1 extra to get lynched. So the chances are just not there. Sorry, major failure at math for me when I was looking at how many are needed to lynch vs who is alive

And with that... the infiltrators (Archivis and tmodelt) win!
Brom the Hobo wins too.

Mafia
Meningitis See Profile: Mafia Doctor – You are the Mafia Doctor. The pay is good, and the deaths are few. Life is sweet. Every day, you pick a target to protect. Due to the mistrust, you are NOT allowed private communication with anyone. You win with the mafia.
What the player doesn't know: Mafia Doctor is a high school drop out. He couldn't save a life even if someone put a gun to his head. Every time he tries to protect someone, he roleblocks them for the day instead.

brian See Profile: Drug Dealer – You are the Drug Dealer. You have three special pills (one of each as described below) that you can use once per day on someone else.
'Speed' pill: The target becomes faster than usual, resulting in two votes for one night.
'Mellow' pill: The target becomes slower than usual and becomes unable to put their thoughts together, losing their ability to vote for a night.
''Doomsday' pill" The target becomes messed up and paranoid for a night. Every time they respond to someone or are accused by someone, they are forced to vote for that person.
Due to the mistrust, you are NOT allowed private communication with anyone. You win with the mafia.

DrModem See Profile: Dynamite Keeper – You are the Dynamite Keeper. If you are lynched, a random person from the list of people voting for you will blow up the following day. (They will also find a personal note from you the day you are lynched, just to let them know that no one messes with the Dynamite Keeper. Due to the mistrust, you are NOT allowed private communication with anyone. You win with the mafia.

navyet2sw See Profile: Enforcer – You are the Enforcer. Once per Night, you can intimidate someone. Once intimidated, the person must vote for whoever you tell them to vote for the rest of the night. You have a choice to either say "Enforce: target" in public, or send a private action to the mod. Either way, the target will always know who is intimidating them. Due to the mistrust, you are NOT allowed private communication with anyone. You win with the mafia.

Antonica See Profile Squealer You are the Squealer. Once per day, you can spy on someone and find out whether they went out to do something, and whether someone had targeted them (but not who). The catch? You -must- tell someone what you saw. Either in private to one person through the Mod, or in public to everyone. Due to the mistrust, you are NOT allowed private communication with anyone. You win with the mafia.
Failure to tell someone the results ends up in the person going insane and committing suicide.

chlen See Profile: Gunner – You are the Mafia Gunner. You have a real nice gun and can take one shot anytime during night to take someone down. Post "Headshot: target" to kill someone. Due to the mistrust, you are NOT allowed private communication with anyone. You win with the mafia.
What the player doesn't know: Due to ammo shortage on the first night, if he tries to shoot someone, it will result in a brawl where best out of 3 'rock, paper, scissors' wins.

Independent
Brom See Profile: The Hobo – You are the Hobo. You have no home, no money, little clothes, and no friends. The good part? No one knows where to find you during the day, so no day actions will affect you. You win by surviving.

Infiltrators
tmodelt See Profile: Communications Specialist – You are the Communications Specialist.
Once per day, you make a connection with the Law Enforcement Officers to give a target. The officers will then be on the target for the night. As a result, the target will be too distracted to be able to vote. You are also allowed private communications with your partner Archivis See Profile. You win with the infiltrators.

Archivis See Profile: Hat lover – You are the Hat Lover. You LOVE hats. You dress real sharp and perfectly fit in with the Mafia thanks to your awesome hats. Everyone loves you. As a result, one extra vote is required to lynch you. You are also allowed private communications with your partner tmodelt See Profile. You win with the infiltrators.

Day 1 / Night 1 Actions
navyet2cw intimidates Archivis
Chlen shoots Arch, resulting in a fight. Arch (Paperx3) beats Chlen (Paper, paper, rock)
Meningitis is lynched
Antonica spies on Brom
bjl gives doomsday pill to Antonica
tmodelt targets Brom
Antonica is jailed

Day 2 / Night 2 Actions
navyet2cw intimidates tmodelt
tmodelt is lynched
bjl gives doomsday pill to Archivis
navyet2cw is jailed

I think it was a good experiment for me to see how several power roles tied to voting all at once would work, while limiting actions on Day 1. I think this game would've played out better if the infiltrators had no Day kill at all, and would need to do it all through voting only... but that would go on for too long, and with the holidays bringing this to a dead stop, it wouldn't be a good idea. And I like how navy stole the votes only from the infiltrators, just what his role was meant for, heh.

And a bit disappointing that Antonica didn't get to squeal on anyone, nor that Modem got lynched... oh well, next time!

4 players means 3 to lynch. Arch is beloved, making it 4... so unless he is feeling crazy enough to vote himself, it can't work. Navy stealing his vote, or you using the second vote ability on someone was my bet on taking him out, but he got luckier.

P.S. Any complaints on the roles go to Kris... I asked him if he thinks that it would be balanced or not for this size... and he said the only way to know is to play it...

Chlen was your balance. He called you right away, while if he waited for Day 2 would have had a sure shot at your death. Random gave the role to chlen, who we all know likes to blow his wad early. Usually accurately, as in this game. Unfortunately for mafia he lost RPS. Slightly unbalanced, but all circumstantial, as always. GG all.

Wow, sorry I missed all that. I was so convinced Arch wasn't the town simply because of his "breaking the game with certain roles" talk. I guess I'll try to remember this haha.

Yeah, just like landmines should NOT be given to town side, beloved shouldn't be given mafia.

GG anyways... neat flavor. I liked how it was all turned around.

Once I did the math, I realized that I could hammer anyone and win as long as navy died overnight. So, I wasn't too worried about hammering my partner.

There was still a tiny chance, but I figured there's no way anyone would go with that.

If no lynch was voted, and bjl was not killed, and used the second vote ability on someone who was mafia and wasn't killed, it would be possible... but that's a lot of IFs.

And yeah Ant, I see it now about the beloved, though I thought it would work as I had given mafia 3 roles that could possibly neutralize him, but chlen didn't wait till at least day 2, navy was shot before he took Arch down, and bjl didn't have time to use the second ability thing. I really thought that mafia had a much bigger advantage before the game, hence why I crippled the doc, and gave a restriction for day 1 on the vig shot.

But hey, lessons learned... I'll run another one in the future that will work better.

It was fun anyways. I think people understand that when you venture into non-standard formats that balancing a game is always a juggling act. I find that many games are actually fairly balanced, but executed poorly by the losing side.

To be fair, I made a pretty solid case that I was "mafia" based upon the advantage I had.

I pushed it a little, but I saw that if I pushed it any more, there would have been attention drawn my way. You were a good candidate, but the lynch or lose scenario scared the rest of the group away from lynching you.

One thing... never get convinced by anyone who compares something to previous games or to the norm with me, unless it's a standard C9/F11 game... I -like- switching things around and break away from the usual.
