FairPoint Service area question

Click for full size
My question is what does a FairPoint service area mean when looking at my location on FairPoints service map.

Does this mean I will b able to get high speed Internet soon or am I going to be left on the out dated none copper wire lines with poor dial up connections that do not exceed 28.8K

The map and your arrow indicate you are not in the high-speed area ( light green ), so if you get POTS ( dial up ), that all you will get from them

No one knows the future, but Fairpoint is broke so I doubt they will be running anything new in our lifetimes

When you call to ask about service, FairPoint will run a test of the quality of your connection in order to determine what speed you can get in Mbps (Megabits per second). The test takes about a minute and they should be able to tell you immediately what speeds you can get. If FairPoint won't answer the phone or do the test immediately, then go to www.gwi.net and call their sales number. They will test your line immediately, give you an honest estimate of what speeds you can get, and quote you their price for service. I'm not a customer of GWI and have never used their DSL service, so no guarantees. However for more than 8 years I've had service from first Verizon and now FairPoint, and FairPoint's service seems to be getting increasingly shaky in spite of the fact they recently jacked up my price by 20%.

So because my area is dark green that means I already have Internet?

My area only became dark green recently like back in september.

Interresting I'll give them a call for a quote thank you

Actually it appears your location on the map doesn't have service but if you call then they'll note that your a potential customer and can use that for planning purposes. Otherwise they have to guess.

I got an email today from the Director of the connect me authority and told me that a FairPoint told him that my street is on the 2011 planned for VantagePoint 15MB fiber next year.

He then said that the 2010 planned areas should be done at the end of 2010 and then work on the 2011 planned starts.

So my guess is I will get it in 2011 some time. Hopefully early 2011 but at least I know for a fact that I will be able to get it in 2011.
