| Servers for Line Quality-Ping Test and SmokePing Tests First off, thank for this site. It's been a huge help to me.
In the course of running Line Quality-Ping Tests and Smokeping tests, I've had some difficulty in creating a working General Rule within Norton Internet Security 2011 that would allow me to avoid the risks of disabling the firewall completely during tests.
I finally figured out that I needed to allow for 4 different IPs for the SmokePing Test, and an additional server for the Line Quality-Ping Test in the rule to work properly.
The four for the SmokePing test are: 64.81.79.41 209.123.109.175 74.208.229.54 216.254.95.41
The fifth one, to satisfy the Line Quality-Ping Test is: 209.123.192.187
I don't know how dynamic those IPs are, but I'm sure they include the DNS equivalents of: lq1.dslreports.com lq2.dslreports.com www.dslreports.com and a couple of undefined ones at Speakeasy.com
Bottom line is that I was successful using the 5 IP addresses in my rule for both tests, and I think it would be worthwhile for DSLreports.com to update the instructions for the two tests to include the DNS equivalents for all of them that are currently required. |
