 | Dark fiber....where to start? Hey guys,
I'd like to get a fat pipe between 2 offices in the Philly metro area, about 20 miles apart. One of the things I was looking at is buying a strand of dark fiber, but I'm curious how this works when it is between two customer locations - who do I need to get the ball rolling with, my LEC? Will they figure out the actual routing? Or someone else?
Thanks in advance.

Dan Dark fiber is usually pretty pricey and depending on how much bandwidth you mean when you say "Fat pipe", you will probaboy be better off getting some kind of layer 2 point to point. Check with your LEC and if both locations have the same cable TV company (comcast, ect) check with them as well. |

 | reply to dmurray14 I work for a Philadelphia ISP that has done extensive work in fiber build outs. If you're not familiar with pole rights/construction then you're on the right track in finding someone else to do it.
The LEC (Verizon) will likely not want to do it all and if they do it will likely be expensive.
Have you considered if you really need dark fiber or maybe just a lit Layer2 service? Would be cheaper for a lit service.
Would you mind sharing (privately if you want) specific information on the locations of the two endpoints? Even just cross streets would be enough to determine internally whether we can help you. |

 | reply to dmurray14 You could probably try asking for a quote/consultation here: »ISP b2b etc |
