Post Your HSPA+ Speeds HereFellow AT&T Wireless Broadband forum members, Now that the AT&T 3G network is being updated to HSPA+ across the country, I suggest that it's an appropriate time for us to also start watching download speeds. Accordingly, here's my entry, from Reno, NV, 89509 using a USBConnect Shockwave (Sierra Wireless USB 308): Early in the morning :

This all is the regular HSPA 7.2. Unless you use Shockwave or other usb stick that supports hspa+ no way you have it. And smartphone don't support this yet (on ATT).
At best the speed varies but it usually averages to half.
i.e
7.2 - 3 mb
14.4 - 7-8 mb
21 - 10-12 mb |

Also, you can't say that 7.2 HSPA averages in the 3-4mbps range. I can easily pull 6mbps on my iPhone 4, and 5mbps is a no sweat on a clear tower. As far as I know, AT&T is skipping on 14.4mbps HSPA, and going straight to 21.6mbps HSPA+, which is what USBconnect shockwave is capable of. However, I have yet to see anyone NATIONWIDE to reach the speeds that are above HSPA 7.2, on any HSPA+ enabled device (usb modems). Which tells us that AT&T even though has HSPA+ enabled, is still data limiting customers up to 7.2mbps no matter what device they'd be using. |

What's irritating though is the caps...there is no reseller as a work around either. The only way to get uncapped service for air cards is to have a business tax ID and pay about $80 a month I believe it is. |

I'm totally using iPad's $29.95 unlimited data sim card that I've been paying since may. They're not offering that plan anymore, but mine got grandfathered. Popped it in the (unlocked) T-Mobile's Rocket USB modem, and voila... Unlimited Data on AT&T. Can't wait for the speeds to get upgraded to HSPA+ and especially LTE |
