Mine started out like that as well. They will tune the settings and he will be where Huntsville is. (I hope!)

those beat the heck out of what Im getting..

Im in the harvest (madison/huntsville) area, and was told i could get 25.. so I signed up for that.. just switched from mediacom today..
the tech put in a docsis 2 modem (SA DPC2100R2) and when i asked about 3.0, he said they dont have any yet but they would distribute to everyone once they are received..

I did a speed test and only got 8-9MBs both hardwired and wireless... so I called support and they guy told me it could be my older modem.. but Im seeing speedtest on here with people using the same modem at 25, so I dont think thats actually the case.

considering I was getting 12 from mediacom and switched to knology for the 25.. this kindof sucks so far..
day 1, not a good impression.

Get yourself a Motorola SB6120.

Huntsville market was first to be upgraded to D3 and there still handing out D2 modems wow.

yea, that was my thought as well
but since I see people posting speedtest results with the 2100 of over 25mb.. I really dont think the modem is my problem..

I called and complained to support and they are sending someone out to my house saturday.. (not sure what he is going to do different that the install tech that I complained to today, when i didnt like my speeds)..

i had the guy on the phone check my modem levels (since Im not in the office, despite the snow)..

I assume all in dB
up 50.9 (said this should be 55 or lower)
down -11.5 (i believe he said this should be below 15)
sig to noise 33.4 (i believe he said this should be 15-55)

signal strength is not my strong suit.. anyone know if these are actually acceptable levels?

33.4 is normal.....

now if it was TV, anything under 32 and you get Disruption in service/ picture...

so I moved the modem downstairs and closer to the incoming connection.. my speed went from 8-9Mbs down / .75 up to 23-24Mbs down / 4.4 up...
so even though I still seem to be getting a little signal loss, its in an acceptable range..

I verified my settings again, and am curious which change you think fixed it:

Transmit: Was 50.9, now is 50.4
Receive: Was -11.5, now is -6.2
Sig to Noise: Was 33.4, now is 34.7

would that 1.3 diff in sig to noise really make that much difference with my connection?? I guess it could be the receive.... they didnt have much information on what the acceptable level should be on receive.

also.. I see i can get transmit and receive from hitting my modems ip.. but sig to noise isnt available to me.. anyone know a way to get that, short of calling support?

was having issues with my dvr and had to take it in to replace..
while i was in the office, I asked the reps there if they had received any docsis 3.0 modems yet.. I pointed out that a tech told me they had alot on order and would be sending them out to all customers once received.
She wasnt aware of this, so she called a manager and checked with one of the guys in the back...

what she was told is that the docsis 3.0 modems are only being given to business customers.. All home users would continue to receive the SA DPC2100R, since its capable of the rated edge speed (despite being 2.0)..

so I guess if you want a docsis 3.0 modem.. you may want to go ahead and buy your own.. Im checking out that 6120 myself.

I've got three of the 2100r2's and have had them for years. That initial issue of 8mb sounds like they had you on the wrong plan. They seem to always have this issue as that's what they did with me as well. That's why it magically started working at the correct speed.

Initially when they brought 25/5 speeds to this area, they told me it was a modem issue. And even after bringing out a 6120, they still had issues, so I kept my 2100s because of the LEDs that actually tell me what's going on. The issue was finally resolved at their head end after almost a month of paying for edge and not getting it. (They did issue me a credit when I requested compensation.)

Transmit: Was 50.9, now is 50.4
Receive: Was -11.5, now is -6.2
Sig to Noise: Was 33.4, now is 34.7

What signal levels should be:
TRANSMIT: 30 to 55
RECEIVE: -8 to +5
SNR: 32+

Being off from these is not a reason for concern unless the service is affected or the numbers are an extreme amount off. Hope that helps.
