Re: [MA] Where is the snow!!

Um, we've been doing the local street-parking thing for a really long time. We had no choice but to dig out the car. We've both always thought that reserving spots is kind of a dick move (and it's not legal anyway) but I have to admit that the way this winter is going, I'm reconsidering my position.

We are going to mostly miss this storm. We are expected to get a whole 3-6 inches on the coast. Hardly anything inland.
This storm is moving too far west to effect us in Maine in great deal.

I was told the snow was gonna start comin' down between 4 and 7 tonight. It was coming down at lunch earlier, and the roads were slick. I ended up canceling evening plans 'cause I was told it was going to be a mess tonight. Right now? Nothing except a little wind! Nothing's coming down.

I ended up postponing my plans until tomorrow. Now watch that it's going to be a mess tomorrow night. >:(

just watched the Weather Channel. they have a guy in Braintree MA reporting. not much of anything now but it's gonna hit hard during the night from 1am to 5am there.
it just went from sleet to snow near the CT Casinos where i live. guess they said up to 12+ inches for southeastern CT and Rhode Island. snow should be ending during the morning rush hour.

The timing of this storm didn't really screw anything up, which annoys me because I canceled plans based on the forecasts I was receiving and decided to work from home.
As it is I nearly got towed because the storm ended early enough for the condo association to bring snow plows into the complex and tow those that didn't move. I was fortunate I was going out to clean my car when the tow truck came around; they gave me a pass.

If it makes you feel better, the timing of the storm made our lives difficult for a bit!

I had to walk about a mile altogether at around 1AM in some of the heaviest parts of the storm (in NYC), it was pretty rough going for a while especially as I wasn't entirely dressed for it (forgot my hat). My glasses were useless as they became completely encrusted with ice and then all the street signs were covered with snow so we couldn't find our various subway stops and hotels. Plus on the way to dinner we got caught in a quite painful storm of ice pellets and in our desperation to get indoors abandoned our plans of eating somewhere nice and instead ate at the closest place we could run to. My friend's Metro-North train was canceled, then the next one was delayed, and then got stuck, and broke down, and he eventually got home on a third train at 4AM. And then there was the whole Amtrak cancellation thing which led to me spending 90 minutes in the Port Authority and nearly 5 hours on a Greyhound bus, although luckily I avoided sitting near the guy who was expounding on the idea that the bus being 10 minutes late was somehow Obama's fault.

But I got home before rush hour and had a nice dinner at Posto, so it's all good

No taxi drivers running around at 1am in NYC?

I'm not actually dumb enough to get into a taxi with 8 inches of unplowed snow in the street We saw quite a few of them, mostly stuck and spinning their tires.

Okay, I am sick of winter. And shoveling.
I'm moving to the Bahamas.

Crap. Then I have to worry about Hurricanes.

I guess I'll take the snow instead.

I lived in Florida for about 25 years and we never had anything horrible happen via a hurricane aside from maybe losing power for 24-48 hours. I'd take the possibility of 100 hurricanes hitting my house a year over this snowstorm crap. LOL

If the power gets knocked out for an extended period of time ya gotta store the milk and beer outside in the snow.

Winter weather advisory in effect from 6 am Tuesday to 1 am est Thursday,
The NWS in taunton has issued a winter weather advisory, which is in effect from 6 am Tuesday to 1 am est Thursday.
Locations, southern Rhode Island, south coastal Massachusetts and cape cod.
Hazard types, snow, sleet and freezing rain.
Accumulations, 4 to 8 inches of snow and sleet through Wednesday evening. One tenth to one quarter inch of ice accumulation possible Wednesday afternoon.
Timing, snow will overspread this region late tonight, likely affecting the Tuesday morning commute. Snow continues through the day, followed by a brief break Tuesday evening. More snow and sleet should then arrive late Tuesday night into Wednesday. It is possible for a mix of sleet and freezing rain to develop Wednesday afternoon. The storm should finally end as all snow Wednesday night.

Bah- that isn't even close to a winter storm. Throughly disappointed in what NE considers as snow storms. Someone nudge me when they are talking at least 24" or more

I have an appointment Tuesday evening. I decided not to cancel it after I canceled an outing for the last storm and got jack squat on the ground during the time I actually wanted to be out.

you gotta love people that like to be all PC with their statements. for instance in the last line, 'travel will be adversely....'
really? 'adversely' is the best you could come up with?

how about "Don't go driving around! You're putting yourself at great risk and peril by driving during this event storm. Stay at home and keep your ass off the roads."

On the radio they said 4-6 inches today and 12-18 inches tomorrow. Nothing like 20-24 inches of snow on top of the 48-60 inches of snow we already have sitting on the ground.

Yeah, I'm smack in the center of the: "OMG Wicked Fuc**d" region.
I can't believe it...this is apparently a "double whammy". The first batch just recently ended. (Which, by the way, they said may be around 3 to 5 inches or so). But I've been shoveling and pushing it out from the garage for my plow guy ever since it started early this morning. I'll bet we've easily got well over 6" to 8" already.

The second part of the double whammy is yet to come, starting much later tonight....and it's going to be pretty bad.
When all is said and done, we'll probably have over a 2 foot storm...yet again.
Don't get me wrong, I've lived in New England all of my life as well...(as some others have mentioned), and I love it here.
But ya know? Enough is enough!
I REALLY HATE this Global Warming! Oops, sorry. I realize it's now called "climate change", out of necessity. Beside all the Snow, it's apparently the coldest winter here since sometime in the 1980's
(Sorry folks...forget I even mentioned the whole global warmiing thing...please).

Time to go have a cocktail, so I have the strength to shovel some more.
