[request] Condensed "thank you" area

How about an area near the top of the thread for a thank-you list, maybe something along the lines of Facebook's "you and 3 others like this"? Then threads mentioning new versions of software won't be littered with gratuitous posts just saying "thank you, So-And-So". Or people could just use the already-available "actions > Approval for the post" function, but then their names wouldn't be up in lights for everyone to see, which is the whole reason they say "thanks" in the first place.

basically a "public thumbs up"

most forums have a "give thanks for this post" feature.

"Thank you"'s should be personal and not simply by a "click of a button". If you are genuinely grateful for someone helping you out, private message them indicating such or post it onto the end of a "solved" thread.

Manners should never be automated.

A good solution would then be to forgo thanking in the threads and sending the person that assisted you a PM. As I said, thanking should be a personal thing, not something that can be made into a statistic, a listing or the like.

one on one is different. some threads is an OP with something useful, and a bunch of useless "Thanks man" following posts.

I would hate to get a bunch of useless thank you PMs

I am ok with the ol' thumbs up per thread/reply better than this idea.
If its publicly viewed or privately viewed towards the person the thumbs up was intended for is ok with me.
