Re: How to switch from Shaw to Telus

I don't understand, does the service cut out a lot. I've only been active on TELUS for 2 days now so what can I expect in the future. So far I'm happier then a pig in shit. I was also fully prepared to take a little hit in speed and reliability to get away from SHAW so unless something major changes I'm pretty happy right now....

I am glad it worked out. Everyone that I have convinced to switch to Telus have had positive experiences so far.

My Telus internet has been rock solid.

I like the straight line on my graph when downloading, very little if any up-and-downs. The other thing you will really like is the clarity of the bill - it lists exactly what you are getting, and how much you are paying for each. I could never figure out my Shaw bill. So far, everything has met or exceeded my expectations.

I would cut my speed to 1/4 if I had to, anything to get away from those SHAW hardcaps, as everyone else says, as long as SHAW has caps, higher speed is useless. Hit your cap in 2 days and unplug the modem for the rest of the month? For me TELUS was the perfect fix, I hope you get your problems worked out okay though. If switching to SHAW works for you then go for it, hell I used to be a SHAW fanboy, but the CAPS and how everything went down is unforgivable, I just can't stand SHAW anymore, I even turn the TV over when I see a SHAW commercial come on. SHAW just turns my stomach now........... It's to bad I was a good customer

Hey Roofer, as I said earlier I am super happy thanks for the help man. I think I will keep an eye on my connection for 2 weeks to a month, but if everything keeps performing like it has been for the last 2 days, I will be telling everyone I know to move to TELUS. Right now I'm just telling people to leave SHAW, but I think if they ask I'll be sending them to TELUS, so far so good .

shaw sucks,i live in East Van by 29th skytrain and with the high speed ex is still slow.ive always had issue with them and once
a lady technical support hung up on me after i was angry about the problem and the useless reply i got from her and the 40 mins on hold time.
i switched over to telus and back to shaw back and forth coz i still
find shaw faster than telus in my area, altho "fast" is not fast in my
area.for years my areas been stressed out and they done nothing
about it.
just these couple of days, again my internet becomes slow as it
always does once in a while....with high speed ex my freaking down load is only less than 4 mbs...of course i called them and
complain again and as always they tell u to try the same thing over and over again like to re start moderm,router..etc and of
course ive already done all those before the call that would put
me on hold for 30to 40 mins. oh by the way the only good thing
about shaw is that now u no longer wait that long anymore when u call.

anyway,no problem found from what they see and gave me some
bullshit answer like it could be ur computer and all other reason
which has nothing to do with them,i just got a brand new computer for crying out loud and the guy goes "oh ok,well well
keep monitor this problem and try to figure out whats causing this"
and not to mention that since i rent out my ground floor and once
they came to knock on the renter door and their little kid answered
and told them that we not one family as they asked, fvck, they started charging me 2 internet and cable bills...i mean for internet
i dont care,i would rather not share it coz u know,it could slow u
down when they download some shit but for tv!! fvckers,so now i switched over to bell tv and no longer use shaw tv,just have the
internet from shaw, and i switched the tenants to telus :P.
anyhow,it just sucks having shity internet in Canads compare with
a lot of other places in the world,i wish there will be a better option for my area in the near future!!

Maybe Telus can do the right thing and when they get more customers instead of putting all the money in their pockets and simply charging more to do upgrades like Shaw does, they will actually start investing back in their product to meet the rising demand for High speed internet.

Canadian companies need to start to leading the way I'm sick of seeing Canada 5-10 years away from the kinds of service that you can get south of the border.

Are there any deals for customers only using two of the services (optik high speed turbo+optik TV)? I'm not on a contract, and I received NHL Centre Ice and $30 off of the You Pick HD bundle for the first six months. My service was installed Tuesday afternoon, so I may not qualify, but it can't hurt to ask.

How did I get a better pingtest result than you? Guess its just because of distance.

Because I don't have the Java applet installed, so it downgrades me to a B*. My latency and jitter are actually half of yours

I posted thewunderbar's blog about Shaw on my blog and that alone convinced my Mom to switch to Telus. I am pretty proud that she is able to understand the limited bandwidth business and that she realizes what Shaw is doing to it's customers is not fair.

Now I just have to get un-lazy and do the switch myself!

Thanks for the guide OP, especially the hd-pvr at Futureshop deal.

Just purchasing my own condo. Wanted to try out the High Speed 25. Now, the area is VDSL2 upgraded, however I'm curious on what kind of start up fees there is. Might just try the internet for now. Is there any install fees, or just the basic monthly charge to get started.

There are no startup fees or installation fees, and you won't get locked into a contract unless you want the toys (free XBox, free laptop). Please let us know how it works out, and try to convince as many people to cancel all Shaw services as possible. It is an easy sell for an average user - lower costs, and no $1,800 surprises.
