schizo317 posted : Sorry been busy with work the last week or so and havent had a chance to check back since I replied last. I believe our current DL and UL is 8mbps down and 768 up. The fastest that they have advertised is 10 down 1mbps up.

I'll forward the test results I have and some traces and pings from tonight to them with a couple more questions about whats going on and see if they have any information for me. Thanks again really appreciate the help.

Irish Shark posted : My route to those routers are different than yours. So I would have to guess (based on your results) that you might be on a busy/oversold node. It does not take that many folks to eat up all the upstream on your node to cause what you are seeing.

What are your advertised DL & UL speeds? What is the max that your provider has?

I would contact the ISP again and send them your test results. The best time to call them is when you are having the issues. They can look at your node and see what's going on .
--
"You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra

schizo317 posted : Unfortunately it does seem to be a certain time of night kind of issue. Generally around 9-9:30 EST to around 10:30 or 11:00 EST, pm that is, is when things really start to go south hardcore. During the course of the day, it can sporadically have issues with extreme latency or cutting out but those times are generally when it gets really bad.

Case in point I ran the line test again when I got home from work today, about 5 pm EST, and it came up pretty good.

The trace route to the w014.z207088246.xo.cnc.net address came back solid.

Tracing route to w014.z207088246.xo.cnc.net [207.88.246.14]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 8 ms 7 ms 7 ms 10.125.192.1
3 8 ms 7 ms 10 ms core1-cs.myacc.net [24.233.167.37]
4 12 ms 11 ms 10 ms w009.z207088246.xo.cnc.net [207.88.246.9]
5 20 ms 10 ms 12 ms w014.z207088246.xo.cnc.net [207.88.246.14]

The trace on the second address didnt really work out so well

Tracing route to core1-wn.myacc.net [24.233.175.240]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
2 11 ms 9 ms 11 ms 10.125.192.1
3 8 ms 7 ms 8 ms core1-cs.myacc.net [24.233.167.37]
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.
10 * * * Request timed out.
11 * * * Request timed out.

I stopped it there but it continues on as it does there untill hop 30.

Pinging both addresses returned timeouts and nothing else.

Pinging w015.z207088246.xo.cnc.net [207.88.246.15] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Pinging core1-wn.myacc.net [24.233.175.240] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 24.233.175.240:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

Now, I know under some circumstances thats normal, some networks arent pingable, but its curious since you were able to get a result there. I'm unsure as to what the problem could be, maybe an overloaded router or node at that point at those times of day, I'm no expert on any of this though. Is all this something I should make my ISP aware of, or can they really even do anything about it?

again thanks for your time very much appreciated.

schizo317 posted : Hey all, I've recently within the last few months been experiencing extreme latency spikes and slow downs on my cable and I'm trying to narrow things down. I've been in contact with my ISP to try and get things resolved but there hasnt really been much going on. Just wondering what this says about where the problem might lie and if I should pass it on to my ISP, thanks in advance.

»/pingtest/2939···/2708363
