Line Quality Test and Router Issue

Hello all,
I've been having some really weird issues with Shaw cable lately. Games have become unplayable, where PC games sometimes are sometimes acceptable with 400ms to 1100ms latency; Xbox Live and PSN are unmanageable.

At first, I assumed this was a router issue, but I lag horribly even when directly connected to my modem.
(My router is an Asus RT-N16 running Tomato firmware)
Still, I figured I should run a test in both cases...which presents me with another 'problem'.

When I run the ping test without the router, I 'pass' everything, but the maximum ping seems to indicate a bit of the problem I'm experiencing when I try to play a game online.

This test can be seen here:
»/pingtest/b625···/2711744

When I test with the router included, I get (as expected) a horrible max latency. However, I also get massive 'losses' between 40% and 95%. This seems exceptionally odd, as I've gotten friends (and a server in southern California) to tracert to here with no reported packets dropped and no 'exceptional' hops, and vice versa. My router also never has issues with pinging/tracing to pretty much any destination - save the horrible ping times that I'm going to have to call Shaw about.

This can be viewed here:

What I'm wondering, is how my router can be producing these reported losses? I've set it up to allow external pinging and virtually any 'type' of packet to get through.

Another thing to note, is that when I run a simple ping -t for a half an hour, with the router I get (every 8th packet) ~900ms or so (with every other packet being fine at 16-27ms). But when I take the router out of the mix, this 8th ping time is reduced to 200-500ms (but every other ping time remains at 16-27ms).

That part of the quality test doesn't seem to be affecting anything - without the router, the only difference I notice is that domains resolve slightly faster. But it's still concerning, as even after I attempt to correct my main lag issue, it may pose its own problem that I can't notice yet.
This is just something I'd like to figure out before Shaw gets around to fixing my high ping issue (which occurs with one of their 'hosts', dx4lb-g3.lb.shawcable.net)

Anyone have any thoughts? Any router settings to look for?

Er, when I said 'max ping', I meant 'max latency'. Different terms that I sometimes use interchangeably, sorry;
sorry for the DP as well, I suppose.

• Both of those LQTs show high latency at your hop. As you said above you need Shaw to look at that issue. It is very possible that is your issue.

• When you pull the router or put it back into the mix, do you reboot your MODEM and your box?

• You did not say what MODEM you have, so I'll go the usual default IP for the MODEM.

ping -n 10 192.168.100.1

Just C&P the summary data and not the whole ping test.

ping -n 10 127.0.0.1

Put the router back into the mix. Reboot the MODEM and your box.

ping -n 10 192.168.1.1

• Ping dslreports.com and run a tracert to it.
