 | Mediacom = Low Value I agree with most of the negative blogs about Mediacom. Mediacom = Low Value. If there are any other alternatives in your area, take them!!! Don't get caught in their low cost service bundling trap...cost will increase constantly until you are paying double or more of your bundled rate. I removed cable from my package last year and went to satellite (DSN). Saved almost $50 a month, with twice as many channels and much clearer HD signal. I removed telephone shortly thereafter and went to OOMA....free service!!!! Saved another $40.00 a month. Now I have only internet service with them. Problem with dropping this service is that they have the market cornered on this product for our area. $69 for VIP - 12mgb, which my PS3 has proven to be a total fabrication...about 1/5 that. Upgraded to the Netgear Gigabyte router and still no change. So I reduced to the 3mgb plan and still pay $45 a month - get 2.2 but that could be a 70% signal strength from router to PS3 (3 story house). Comcast, right up the street, charges $20 a month for the same service - but maybe they are not in the business of ripping off customers. Furthermore, I am always losing service (disconnect - then reconnect). The nearest office is over 50 miles away from my house, so I have to telephone when I have a problem. Of course, when you call for service, you are placed on hold for 30 minutes...no exaggeration! Then they transfer you to another person and the wait starts all over. (this sucks because I have to call on my cell because I have VOIP phone service that relies on their internet working properly) When you do get them, they run the Mediacom handbook on you, it is your router, your PC, your PS3...anything but them. I am telling you folks this...as soon as there are other avialable options in our area, Mediacom will fall flat on their faces in my market. I think they know it as well, hence the outrageous prices. Get all the profit you can now before your people just ship and yours sinks. I understand that you folks want to try to make this right but I have had service with you folks for over 11 years and prices keep going up and service keeps going down. You have had your chances to amke it right or at least become comparable with other companies but time has run out on you and technology has surpassed you. As soon as the new 4g cell phone hotspot hits the street with my carrier, you are history and nothing could ever bring us back.

 1 edit | reply to Jonesy22 I feel we are getting the run around here in Mahomet. They know they have utilization issues. My node split date came and went with nothing being done. Was a "soft" date of 2-20-11. Anyone ever get a "hard" date out of these guys? I am not holding my breath, I've read too many threads of folks with the same problem. This company needs to be regulated since they are not responsible to consumers. It should be against the law to sell/promise more than you can provide. And I'll bet their still selling 12/1 plans daily. My issue is not that old and I will give them a little while longer to make things right. If not I WILL march down to our City Council meeting and demand they lure in some competition. I WILL make complaints to the Ill attorney general, FCC, FTC, and BBB. Has anyone ever filed a class action lawsuit against this company???

| reply to Rocketman678 I've had speed issues for over 3 months. I had a promise of an upgrade on our node of mid February, now they say mid April. It just isn't worth it. Horrible upstream and downstream speeds unless you decide to get online at 5:30 a.m., then the speed is great. I've been a customer for over 8 years but I've had it, at least we can get dsl here. |
