sporadic service in NY?

I'm seeing sporadic service in NYC. Anyone else having issues. Speakeasy cust support rocks every time I call them, but I would prefer to call less frequently.

Speeds are sometimes slow but I haven't had any complete down time. Lower Manhattan here.

I wonder whether there is throttling? Had one outage after I did 1.2 GB of uploads to my new free Mozy account. Had another 30 minute outage today around noon.

But my speed test at a moment ago came back at 114 / 0.65 Mbps.

The service is just weird. I _do_ sometimes get better speeds than I should, but I also have periodic outages.

Have you checked your routes?

I am being routed through NYC POP to Los Angeles, back to NYC and then into Boston for any service located here on the east coast. I have tried several different locations (work locations) with different providers and same issue.

Just got off the phone after being on hold for over 30 minutes... to find out I was sent to the wrong department. At least the tech tried to help but basically told me I was *OL. They can't control the routes.

Yes, I did call support but I wish that I had not.

A tech visited and I'm now in a billing dispute with you. I have a $200 charge for the tech visit and I am cancelling my service as soon as possible and expect to have the charge removed.

Having same issues -- when downloading anything, getting full throughput for 45-60 seconds (0% packetloss), then 100% packetloss for 10 seconds, then rinse and repeat.. wonder if they broke somethign with their migration, or are throttling connections..

That sounds very similar to a SE problem I ran into 7pm last Sunday. DSL (far end interlaced) CRC error rates where in range of ten's per second, and the whole DSL connection was retraining every 30 seconds. (no traffic flow during retrain cycle.) Each retrain cycle my Dsl modem would re-sysnc up at 1536/384Kb with 7 to 8db of SNR margin. It would take several minutes to load even simple web pages.

Tried to call SE tech support, got music on hold, hung up after waiting 20-30 minutes. I just shut it down for the night and went out on the town.

I don't ever recall my DSL line being this over the edge before, and I suspect Megapath may have changed something on their end to make it worse.

They failed to solve the problem, I cancelled my service, and they're still trying to bill me for the tech. Don't call in a tech if you're having these issues -- just switch to another ISP.
